Brighton is a small town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. Brighton is named for George H. Brighton, an early settler and founder of the community. The first people to live in what is now Brighton were the Kiowa Indians. They were there before any other European settlers arrived in this area. In 1879, J.F. Quirk established a post office here with mail service from Denver as well as goods brought over by wagon train travelers on their way to the Gold Rush in Nevada and California. The name "Brighton" was given to the settlement by one of its inhabitants who became very interested in getting a better view of Aspen from his house on Horseback Hill across from current day downtown Brighton Heights. By 1882, some 200 people had settled here and soon began acquiring property around what is now downtown including much of what would become today's north side of Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets and much of what would become today's east side between Second and First Streets (including most of present-day Park Avenue). On July 4th, 1883, the first law school class graduated from nearby Aspen College with degrees that included law certificates; these graduates founded that same year's first law firm - Hastings &Quirk LLP - located adjacent to present-day Grand Central Station on Broadway near Third Street SW! At this time too, Brighton was becoming known as one of America's leading centers for legal education with many famous lawyers practicing here including Clarence Darrow (the famed lawyer who represented Southern segregationist Gov't attorneys during the Scranton Rebellion), Harry Blackmun (the Associate Justice on THE US Supreme Court which ruled against Brown v Boardinghouse et al.), John Marshall Harlan (a noted appellate attorney who helped win key cases such as Brandeis vs Wesson et al.), Edward Everett Horton (founder/president/CEO/CTO Wells Fargo Bank), Eliot Spitzer (former Governor New York City) – among others! It wasn’t until after World War II when waves of newcomers arriving following open air mining operations caused much decline in overall population size – although some residents did continue living here through those hard times – until finally reaching 1,500+ residents by 1990! Today’s population makes up just over half that number: 2,569! Many aspectsof our town’s history are reflected throughout its name such as “Brighton Hills” located off East Second Street which once served as both a shopping mall and high school while also containing several businesses dating back many years ago like The Gilded Cage restaurant which still stands today; “Hastings &Quirk LLP” has been home to over 100 attorneys since it opened its doors back in 1983 (!); local artist Monterey Carrasco created colorful murals along Church streets depicting life within our tiny community circa 1890-1930; recent additions include new art galleries like The Gallery at Five Points Contemporary Art Center featuring international artists regularly exhibiting their work along with coffee shops such as Tombs Coffee House inside historical restored tavern called The Globe also situated just steps away from charming oldbuilt public square filled with antique stores etc.; music venues like Record Hall West located right next door hosting popular concerts throughout summertime; plenty Of places for locals & visitors alike to gather together for social events each month or so including annual city wide flag parade downs Main Street followed by fireworks display Nightclubbing can be found all around town especially along Third Street Sq.,Discounts available at many restaurants & bars frequented by locals during tourist season; pretty parks like Orchard Park make great spots for children playing games or taking walks while parents enjoy meals at various cafes or take advantage of free parking lots closeby restricting only street parking privileges
Brighton was founded in 1876 by Dr. George Fenton and his wife, Anna. The town was originally named "Bloomington" after the nearby Bloomingdale County seat of Bloomington. Brighton quickly became a popular agricultural center due to its fertile soil, ample water resources, and easy access to transportation. The town's early years were hampered by its location on the edge of a large coal mine, but it soon attracted industry and growth. In 1886, the Brighton Railroad was completed and helped spurrowth in the town. By 1912, Brighton had become an important commercial center with three banks, twelve businesses, and over one hundred residents. In the 1920s, Brighton experienced rapid growth as a result of World War II restrictions on lumber production in Colorado that limited new investment in rural areas. Despite this setback, however, Brighton continued to grow during the postwar period and became one of Colorado's leading cities by the late 1960s.
