The coffee industry first began to grow in Brighton in the early 1800s. In 1912, an Italian-owned grocery store opened in town and started selling coffee from beans that were roasted near Florence, Italy. The grocery store was known for its low prices and quality products. In the 1940s, two men named Jack and Dick D’Angelo began growing coffee beans on their farm west of Brighton. They started roasting their own coffee and selling it at local farmers markets throughout Colorado. Their coffee became very popular and they were able to sell their farm for $1 million dollars in 1995. Today, Brighton Coffee Company continues to serve high-quality coffee to residents of the area.
