After World War I, the Brownsells donated another USS Constitution to Brighton in 1922. This ship served as a troop transport until she was decommissioned in 1969. In 1978, Commodore Brownell's son, John D., donated another USS Constitution to Brighton again. The ship is now used as a museum vessel and is open to the public twice per year.

Ferguson. The city was named after Commodore John Fenton, who served in the Union Navy during the American Civil War. In 1928, one of the first businesses in town was a store called The Girdle Shop. That store continued to operate until it closed in 1978. In 1972, a group of businessmen purchased The Girdle Shop and reopened it as The Wagon Wheel Shop. This store continued to operate until it closed in 1984. In 1987, another group of businessmen bought the business and renamed it The Nautilus Store. This store continue to operated until it closed in 1992. In 1998, a group of businessmen purchased The Nautilus Store and reopened it as The Bluejacket Store. This store continued to operate until it closed in 2002. In 2003, a new group of businessmen purchased the business and renamed it The Catfish ShackStore). Brighton is a small town located in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. The town is part of the Grand Junction Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Brighton were the Hahns and Bowles. They came from Iowa in 1879 and built a log cabin on what is now State Road 3. In 1881, they married Anna Ladd and moved to Brighton. By 1903, Anna had children and the family decided to stay in Brighton permanently. They built a new home on what is now East Elm Street. In 1905, they bought an acre of land off US Highway 6 for $1 per acre ($40 per lot). That tract of land became the nucleus of today's village square that includes the city hall building as well as several businesses including two banks and one post office along with a few homes which remain standing today such as Mrs. Kapp's house on West Main Street which was used as a schoolhouse until 1925 In 1918 local resident James Fenton donated his farmstead (now known as North Park) to become Brighton's first public parkland In 1923, Mrinald Jorgensen purchased an interest in Lima Mining Company for $4,000 Jorgensen served as president of Brighton from 1926-1929 In 1929 Jorgensen sold his interest in Lima Mining Company toDC Mines Incorporated for $30,-000 In 1932 Mrs Jane McCulloch donated her large plot of land northeast corner of Main and State Streets to become "Mrs Jane McCulloch Park" (later renamed "Brighton village square") In 1933 Dr Everett Church donation provided water pump & well for Village Square & main street intersection
