Canon City is a small town in the US state of Colorado, located in the San Miguel County seat of Canon City. The population was 1,651 at the 2010 census. In 1949, when Canon City became an incorporated town under Colorado Revised Statutes § 5-6-1 (the "Statute"), it had a population of 2,392 people This rapid growth continued until 1965 when it peaked at 3,291 people due to increased immigration from Mexico and other parts of Latin America that year as well as annexation by Arvada Municipal District No. 2 which added 624 acres (240 hectares) to canon city limits making it one of Colorado's fastest growing municipalities during this time period

In 1876, Jno Ewing built a sawmill on what is now Main Street in Canon City which became known as the Ewing Millinery Manufacturing Company until it merged with Sears Roebuck & Co., Inc., a Chicago company in 1971 to form Sears Holdings Corporation. In 1916 Clyde Ahern became mayor of Canon City after being elected from the north end of town where he had lived for many years before he began his political career as an attorney with Morrison & Foerster LLP. He served two terms before retiring from politics effective December 1, 2002 due to age eligibility requirements set by state law at that time. Mayor Ahern's last term coincided with the centenary year of canon city's incorporation as a town; this coincides with similar celebrations throughout Weld County which include events like art shows, festivals, parade and more. On July 24th 2006 Canon City experienced its most significant event when local resident John Griggs donated $5 million to help build new high school within walking distance of downtown – becoming only the second municipality ever to donate such an amount directly towards building a new school (the other being South Miami Beach Florida). With this donation Griggs pledging not only tax dollars but also available acreage around Town Center for businesses or housing development if needed.
