Canon City, Colorado is a small town located in the San Miguel County area of south-central Colorado. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. The first people to settle in Canon City were those who came overland from Denver and other nearby towns in 1876. In 1907, Canon City was incorporated as a town. In 1977, Canon City became part of the newly created county of San Miguel and remained that way until 2000 when it became part of the new Logan County. As with most smaller communities in our country, there has been growth and change throughout the years with some significant advancements including: The opening of Canons Lake Resort which now includes 12 indoor pools and an outdoor pool; The construction of two new high schools - Canon High School (now Canon Business College) and Mountain View High School - both of which opened in 2002; The addition of a community center which housed various businesses before being renovated into apartments; And finally, the incorporation of the neighboring village of Manitou Springs into canon city proper as well as their annexation by canoncity. All these changes have helped contribute to what is now one of the fastest growing areas in rural America. With such tremendous progress made by our community over these many years, we are excited for continued growth and development!

Canon City is a town in Moffat County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pueblo-Allendale, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Canon City were Mormons who made their winter home there in 1849 as part of Brigham Young's ill-fated wagon train from Nauvoo, Illinois. They named their new settlement after Canon Eusebius of Caesarea around which they believed the church had been founded by Jesus Christ some 2400 years earlier. In 1867, a group of Presbyterian missionaries arrived and set up a mission station in nearby Montrose. In 1868, Canon City became the site of what would be its first school when John Atherton built a log cabin on the east side of Main Street for use as an educational institution for local children. The building still stands today and is used as a museum (the Canon City Historical Museum). Canon City began experiencing growth in the early 1900s when railroads came to town and started providing access to energy resources that were becoming more important with each passing year. By 1912, over 60 businesses had opened in Canon City thanks to investments by entrepreneur George Waddell and his son-in-law Harry Hinkley III. During World War I, many American servicemen who lived in or near Canon City served in camps located adjacent to the city limits; these men donated their time and talents for military service without receiving any payment beyond food and lodging until 1919 when Act No. 333 created Military Service boys' Homes Incorporated which provided housing and other benefits for these troops during peacetime while they awaited discharge from military service
