The first café open to the public was the Bluebird Café on Main Street. In 1957, Harry and Mildred Denny opened the Sloppy Joe's Cafeteria on State Street which served coffee until 1971 when it closed due to lack of business. In 1978, Bob Kapp set up his own beans and equipment business called Kapp Coffee & Tea that became one of the most successful small batch coffee businesses in history. In 1984, Kapp Coffee & Tea relocated to its current location on Park Avenue which has served as their headquarters ever since. In 1992, Bob Kapp passed away but his wife continued running the company until her death in 2009. Today, Bob's widow Donna continues running the company with her son John as CEO. She also operates a second location - The Bean Shop - that serves freshly roasted beans from their original equipment located adjacent to their original cafés throughout Weld County.
