Canon City is a town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Douglas County. Canon City was founded in 1867 by J.D. Whitney and named for George Washington Canon. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century as a railroad center and became an important manufacturing center for bicycles, typewriters, automobiles, rifles and other weapons. In 1907 the city built its first library, which remains one of the most important libraries in Colorado today. By 1930 Canon City had become one of the largest trade centers in the Western US with a diversified economy that included brewing coffee and other agricultural products such as eggs and cheese

Later, the Dutch Coffee House moved to its present location on Welton Street. In 1916, the Canon City Cafe opened its doors and became one of the first restaurants in Canon City. In 1959, The Java Hut opened its doors and became one of the most popular cafes in town. In 1984, The Spotlight Café moved into its current location on First Avenue and has since become an iconic landmark in Canon City.

The history of tactical coffee can be traced back to at least the early 1800s when coffee was first introduced into Europe by Portuguese traders. Coffee became popular in both Portugal and Spain, where it was used as a payment system for soldiers and as a fuel source for their warships. In 1824, Dutch traders brought coffee beans back to Holland, which began to spread the word about the delicious drink throughout Europe. Coffee quickly became a favorite beverage of professional soldiers and civilians alike, and soon became known as the drink of choice for those who wished to stay mobile and out-of-the-way during wartime. As time passed, different countries began to import more and more coffee from Africa, where it was ground into Tripoli gold or used in trade goods. Eventually, coffee reached America through Spanish traders who had carried the beans across the ocean. The United States also became interested in this valuable crop after becoming involved in World War II as part of NATO. Because of its importance in American culture, coffee has been mentioned numerous times in various books and articles about warfare dating back to antiquity.

Canon City, Colorado was founded in 1876 by George H. Smith and named for the Canon of Rome. The city is located in Western Colorado and has a population of over 120,000 people. Canon City is the largest city in the county of Mesa and is home to the Mesa County Courthouse and many businesses including The Camera Store, Canon USA, Canon Camera dealerships, Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity chapter, Mesa Community College Districts art department and more. In 1876 George H. Smith decided to start a new town in what was then known as “The Desert” due to its lack of water resources. He purchased 640 acres of land at an average price of $1 per acre from John Wesley Powell who was exploration supervisor for Ulysses S Grant’s first administration as President Ulysses S Grant had been appointed by President James Buchanan as Secretary of War. After consulting with his banker friend Julius Rosenwald he decided that it would be too expensive to build a town on this land so he sold it back to Smith for $800. In 1877 the first post office was established in Canon City which received its mail from Denver until 1907 when it moved to nearby Pueblo which continued receiving mail until 1939 when it moved back into Canon City where it currently stands today. The original settlers were farmers looking for a place to grow crops and provide milk for their families while also exploring new areas within Colorado Territory that they could claim as their own property such as the San Luis Valley near Aspen or Arrowhead Canyon near Truth or Consequences which lay just east of present-day Canon City on state lands acquired during Larimer County’s fights against Mexico (1846-1848). By 1879 there were over 100 people living in Canon City with only one school serving all 12 local districts; six months later there were fifteen schools open with 350 pupils each teaching three hours each day with no other services available outside school hours like plumbing, heating or manufacturing! School buildings began being erected gradually throughout 1880-81 but because no transportation was available across these large expanses of high desert country there wasn’t much progress made until after 1907 when The Camera Store opened up shop down Main Street opposite Pueblo High School which quickly became one of Canons most important commercial institutions along with locally produced gasoline products from Jiffy Lube hardware store (now known as Lowe’s) across Main Street between Third Street & Broadway behind canon camera stores! When oil drilling started happening along Interstate 25 close to downtown Canon City many business owners took advantage of this opportunity selling gas/oil products from their establishment directly onto motorists traveling through town providing essential sustenance during those difficult days during America’s oil crisis that reached its peak in 1969! Businesses such as Jiffy Lube Hardware Store continue operating successfully into our current day even though current I-25 access makes them less accessible than they once were given former boundaries including Interstate 70W just south east!/ This continues an interesting trend shown by recent census data showing that although canyon residents have lost some jobs due RTD construction projects within Orchard Park directly adjacent thereto (carbon capture storage plant & power line extension), overall canyon residents have seen modest but steady job growth (+0% every year since 2000) resulting primarily from increased tourism (+10%) combined with growing research & development activity (+30%). Todaycanoncity features two major employment hubs: Gordon Center – home base for R&D activities at HPE Aerospace - formerly Northrop Grumman - now Raytheon Company Headquarters;and Downtown – anchored by several major retailers including Macy's Department store followed by numerous smaller boutiques & restaurants
In 1861, Canon City was the first of seven towns in what is now Unincorporated Colorado. The town was named for John Fenton Canon, a settler who arrived in 1859. The first post office opened in 1860, and the town grew quickly. In 1872, it became part of the newly created County of Arapahoe. It lost its status as a town when Arapahoe County was merged into the new State of Colorado in 1912. Canon City has had a variety of businesses over its history- from grocery stores to mining companies-. One of its most famous residents is Elmer Holmes, who founded Holmes Mercantile Company in 1902 and is still active today.
