Centennial was founded in 1875 by two wagonloads of men who were looking for a new home to grow coffee. Today, Centennial is one of the most important Coffee Capitals in the world. Coffee began to be grown here in Centennial back in 1795 when Humboldt County resident Juan José de Montellano started planting beans near what is now Fourth Street and Park Avenue. By 1875, Centennial had become an important center for coffee production and trade due to its location on a major road and its easy access to resources like water and lumber. Today, Centennial's coffee industry is still very active with many different cafes and restaurants serving delicious cups of fresh-roasted coffee every day! In addition, there are several hundred acres of forest that are dedicated to growing coffee here, which provides plenty of shade during hot summers or winter months.

In 1795, Dutch traders discovered Java, where coffee was grown wild. From then on, coffee grew rapidly in popularity all over the world. In 1825, Java was annexed by Indonesia and coffee production stopped. The Dutch continued to grow coffee until 1949 when they surrendered control of Indonesia to President Sukarno. Indonesian coffee production resumed in 1976 and continues to this day.

Centennial, Colorado is a town in San Miguel County, Colorado, United States. The population was 797 at the 2010 census. Centennial began as a small settlement on the banks of the Arkansas River in 1876 and grew rapidly due to its location on the Greeley–Alderney Railway. The community was named after Washington's birthday, December 14th, because that date had been chosen by locals as their national holiday. Centennial became an incorporated town on February 15, 1907. Its first mayor was Grover Cleveland Alexander. By 1910, Centennial had become one of the largest communities in San Miguel County with a population of 2,000 people. It remained this size for most of its history until it reached its current size of 797 residents in 2010
On July 1, 1876, Centennial, Colorado became a U.S. State after the passage of the Unites States Constitution.
