The Centennial War of 1876-1877 was a conflict between the United States and Mexico that took place in Colorado. The war began on July 26, 1876, when Mexican forces attacked a U.S. military wagon train near Pueblo. The U.S. responded with an attack on Mexican forces at El Paso on August 8th. This led to the first battle of the war, which ended in a US victory. On October 15th, 1876, the second battle of El Paso occurred; this time, however, the US also lost and it became known as the Battle of Rio Grande Valley (the main event that helped lead to creation of modern day Mexico). From its beginning until 1898 there were multiple wars fought by both sides in Colorado; these wars included various engagements such as the battles at Fort Lyon and Summit Springs (known as the "Battle of Montrose"), Cheyenne Mountain Massacre (fighting near Aspen), and Adobe Walls Massacre (fighting at Arapaho Pass). However, it is primarily during World War II that militaries have been present in Colorado again – most notably during WWII’s campaigns against Japan and Nazi Germany. Today there are two active duty military installations within Colorado: Ft Carson Army Base located outside Denver for National Guard members and Ft Logan Army Airfield located east of Greeley for active duty members from both services stationed there respectively. Additionally, several state militias maintain barracks here including the Rocky Mountains Artillery Regiment which operates out of nearby Canon City Airport; additionally, numerous small towns throughout central Colorado have their own military presence including Aspen Junction where Ft Carson is located; Durango where BIA is headquartered; Nederland where ColoRADV has its office; Purgatory where SRO patrols are conducted; etc… In short, while not all aspects related to militaries are currently bustling or thriving like they once were nationally or locally speaking across Centennial County/Colorado Springs region due to changing circumstances – there is no doubt that militarism flourishes quite comfortably here especially given how longstanding our relationships with our Armed Forces have been!

Sampson and his family as the town of Centennial Springs. It became a city on December 3, 1907 and was named for the centenary of Colorado's admission to the Union as a state on November 12th that year. The placer gold and silver mines in what is now Centennial were one of the first in the region when they were discovered in 1859. The mines yielded $2 million in annual production until 1902 when they were closed due to low ore grades and competition from other miners. However, recent revival of interest has seen new investments being made in both mining and milling potential here which could bring new life to these businesses over time if done right. One thing that makes Centennial unique is its rich history dating back to over a century!
