The Army has been deployed in Commerce City, Colorado for over a hundred years. The city is home to the Colorado National Guard and the Army Reserve Command. The first deployment of the Army in Commerce City was on December 12, 1876. There were only six soldiers and twenty-one civilians who lived in Commerce City at that time. The town’s history can be traced back to 1868 when Major General James Hallett organized the First Rocky Mountain Regiment of Volunteers from Central Colorado. This regiment was later renamed as Infantry Regiment No. 9 of the United States Cavalry Corps (1875-1877). In 1885, the old fortifications in downtownCommerce City were sold to make way for a new armory which would serve as the nucleus for what would become the Colorado National Guard. On May 1, 1886, General John Jumper became Commanding Officer of Infantry Regiment No. 9 and named itColorado National Guardsmen Battalion No. 11 (later changed to Infantry Regiment No 6). In 1896, troops from 2nd Brigade Combat Team 3rd Armored Division arrived in Commerce City after being stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas since 1893. On October 5th 1903 there was an event that would have a long lasting effect on commerce city residents and their relationship with army deployments: General Pershing ordered all American armies out of Europe for World War I! As a result many citizens left town or moved away during this time period; however some stayed behind to help support their units while they were gone. On November 8th 1903 companies K & L 81st Street Armory began serving as garrison quarters for 1st Cavalry Brigade Combat Team 4th Armored Division until relieved by Companies G1 & K 7/8ths Kansas Volunteer Cavalry on December 15th 1903 due to construction projects at nearby Regimental Headquarters Barracks across Welcoming Parkway (now University Avenue) which had just been completed! In 1916 Captain William Fenton organized(and commanded) Company C2/5th Denver Field Artillery Battalion #5 here which became Company M3/4ths Denver Field Artillery Battalion #4 on February 14th 1916 when company A detachment from 2nd Brigade Combat Team 10th Armored Division arrived from Cheyenne Mountain Wyoming Territory assignment under command of Captain Fenton until relieved by Company D detachment from 3rd Brigade Combat Team 10th Armored Division effective April 22nd 1916 because of Supreme War Department Order no 2310 “Changes in Arrangements With Respect To Service By United States Armies And Marine Forces Overseas” Also see attached memorandum dated March 15 1915 entitled “Organization And Services Of Unexpanded District Artillery Battalions” Captain Fenton served as commander until relieved by Colonel Harry Waddell effective July 17TH 1917 because war with Austria ended hostilities between America and Austria effective September 11TH 1918

Commerce City is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,276 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greeley-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Commerce City was founded in 1872 as a stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route between Denver and Salt Lake City. The first store opened in 1873. In 1878, the flour boom led to an influx of people and businesses into Commerce City from nearby towns such as Windsor and Centennial. A new courthouse was built in 1902 and became home to the city's first post office until it was replaced by a new building in 1916. The modern era has seen significant growth for Commerce City with several major development projects completed over the years including: -The renovation of Main Street which saw many businesses open up shop along one of Greeley's busiest streets -The construction of Park Meadows Community Center which houses a variety of municipal services as well as popular event spaces such as the Arts Districts Science Center and amphitheater -The opening of Innovation Place - home to dozens of businesses incubated through Greeley's startup community program Innovation Place also saw the completion of a $30 million expansion project that doubled its size (the largest single expansion ever undertaken in Greeley) including an addition to the north side that houses retail space and an indoor/outdoor mall historic renovations have also been made to existing buildings like Town Hall which underwent a complete restoration from inside out in 2007 and 2008 Today, Commerce City remains one of Greeley’s most vibrant communities with thriving commercial districts anchored by two large anchor stores – Kipling’s Department Store on Main Street and Saks Fifth Avenue – while smaller shops fill every nook and cranny within easy reach throughout downtown core; making it home to some 2,000 residents who are constantly active within their community institutions or professional disciplines
