Commerce City is a city in Moffat County, Colorado, United States. The population was 7,896 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite which became Commerce City was formed in 1876 by merging the villages of Centennial and Brighton. The town name may be derived from the fact that it was then located on "the corner of two rivers" (Centennial River and Brighton Creek). One early resident, A.B. White, donated land to make way for a cotton gin and other mills which developed around 1850-1900; these were some of the first businesses in what would become Commerce City. Cotton production ceased after World War II but has recently resumed with a new mill built in 2006 on old mill property near Interstate 25 and I-25 Business Loop Road Zoning Extension #1

Commerce City is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pueblo Metropolitan Statistical Area. Commerce City was founded in 1867 as a trading post on the Santa Fe Trail. In 1892 it became an agricultural center and in 1951 it became an industrial center with the opening of the Dickenson Paper Mill. The town has since regained its agricultural roots and now produces corn, wheat, potatoes, cottonseed oil, hay and other crops. The first people to live in Commerce City were German immigrants who arrived there in 1867 from Wiesbaden, Germany. They wereatter Jakob Kappler and his family that operated a farm called "Kappleshof". The first post office was established at Commerce City on March 3rd, 1868 by Jens Bühler with the name "Heisterstadt". At that time there were only 160 residents living within the limits of what is now Weld County. In 1892, after years of struggle between various interests within Weld County over land usage rights for new towns being created from old settlements (the so-called 'New Towns Act'), Commerce City emerged as one of those towns - becoming one of the largest growth areas for Weld County during this period. By 1901 there were 2200 residents living in Commerce City - making it one of the most populous communities in western Colorado; though some earlyrowth had been located around Mesa Verde close to Denver Airport (then known as Rocky Mountain News Field). TheDickensonPaperMill opened its doors on December 12th 1951 and produced paper products such as advertising flyers and business cards until 1984 when it closed down due to cost overruns associated with developing production into a major national player. After Dickenson's closure many manufacturing plants closed throughout western Colorado during late 51-'90s but private industry began to revive due to increased demand for finished goods resulting from economic recession during early 2000s
Commerce City was founded by George Crockett on a ranch in 1876. The city grew rapidly after incorporation and became an important economic center for the area. In 1925, Commerce City merged with the nearby town of Golden to form a single municipality. The merger created significant growth opportunities for both towns and helped spur development in both areas. In 1984, Commerce City merged with the neighboring city of Pueblo to form a single municipality again. This merger increased the population of Commerce City by over 50%.
