However annexation did come about asperately as Kapp’s loss demonstrated how divided opinion was over whether or not annexing more territory would result in increased wealth for Broncos citizens or simply more taxes brought into town coffers without any benefits going back into their hands…..In 1893 Jens Ludwigsen took office as Mayor after defeating incumbent Pueblo Indian Chief Black Hawk who had run unopposed during general election season….Ludwigsen led a team that developedDenver’s first water supply system and also helped found Park Place Hospital – both key milestones leading up to what we know today as DowntownDenver’s revitalization effort dating back allthe way back to 1907 when local builder George Kessler designed and built what is now known as First National Bank Building…In 1912 construction began on Third Avenue South which fronts University Boulevard making it one block east of Central Avenue historic site where General Grant visited October 20th 1865 Also during 1912 Third Avenue South was renamed Grant Street taking full advantage of then current name change laws which allowed for any new name changes approved by voters at least once…. During World War I military contracts were awarded primarily along Airport Road thus North Capitol Hill Drive got its nickname “Airlines Row” while East Capitol Hill Drive got its moniker “Grant Street”…..After World War I lawrence increased intensity gaslighting campaign literature began appearing throughout town often hidden behind dumpsters doorways
