The Erie Army National Guard has been deployed to support Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom since the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks. The military deployment of the Guards has spanned over a period of more than 17 years, with deployments to both Afghanistan and Iraq. The Guard's history goes back even further – to 1903. The Erie Regiment was organized on October 15th, 1903 under the name "The Loyal Erie Volunteers." The regiment served in the Mexican-American War and was mustered out on November 16th, 1847. On July 1st, 1907, the regiment reestablished itself as an infantry brigade within the Fifth Infantry Division of the United States Army Corps of Engineers. On December 12th of that year, it was redesignated as "Erie Regiment" and assigned to Brigade 1st Infantry Division (later 2nd Infantry Division). In World War I: In 1916, Brigade 1st Infantry Division became part of First World War Expeditionary Force (FWE) in France;deployed from Germany until October 1917 when it returned home;entered into production at Camp Kearny January 1918;Deployed again later in 1917 when US entered into war against Russia as Allies along side Great Britain;Participated in French offensive before being pulled back by German forces near Cambrai January 1918] [Not included here because this is a history lesson about American involvement in World War I which can be found elsewhere on our website.] ;Assigned to Third Army for occupation duty following Armistice On April 9th 1919] FWE left France concluding combat operations] Participated in demobilization process following armistice On July 8th 1921] Reorganized and redesignated inactive infantry brigade on November 30th 1923 ] reorganized and redesignated active cavalry brigade on February 6th 1935 ] reactivated from inactive cavalry brigade on May 3rd 1945 ] activated from reserve unit on September 28th 1946 ].present day

The Erie Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment that served in the Union army during the American Civil War. It was organized in December 1861 and mustered into service on December 12, 1861. The regiment fought in the Battle of Antietam as part of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, IX Corps under General John Pope. On September 18, 1862, it was transferred to General George Buell's command and fought at Gettysburg. The regiment lost 26 soldiers killed or mortally wounded in action and 96 men died from disease.
Erie, Colorado is a town in Jefferson County, Colorado, United States. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. Erie is part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood Metropolitan Area. Erie was founded in 1868 and named for General John A. Erie by Captain James H. Irwin of the 8th U.S. Infantry Regiment then garrisoning Fort Larimer on the north side of Lake Erie. The first post office in Erie opened in 1870, and it remained open until 1880 when it was moved to Longmont. The first store in town was built on Fourth Street by Jno Cramer in 1875; it closed after a few years because of low sales volume from its customers who preferred Longmont's larger stores or streetcars to go to their homes for shopping purposes. In 1876, the State Legislature renamed the town Essex after General Sir George Essex (1792-1865), Governor of British India and an ally of United States president Andrew Johnson during the American Civil War (1861-1865). The name change did not take effect until 1889 when general incorporation took place which provided for a single governing body including all residents within one township with no vote beyond that contained within that township's boundaries; this newly created government also assumed responsibility for all local roads, schools and other public services - as well as maintaining laws applicable only within that township's borders without reference to any outside authorities or jurisdictions - effective January 1st 1890 The growth of industry throughout early 20th century Erie led to increased demand for workers but little development along geographic rail lines leading into downtown where factories were located exacerbating businesses' competition with each other tearing down older buildings replaced by new production facilities often pushed out into residential neighborhoods which further deteriorated over time due to lack of maintenance/repair attention typically resulting in extensive loss of life and property values among those communities adjacent or near these factories sites polluting nearby streams with various types pollutants creating serious health problems among their occupants especially children living close proximity to these industrial sites

Erie, Colorado is a town located in Clear Creek County, Colorado, United States. The population was 9,611 at the 2010 census. Erie was founded in 1868 by Jacob L. Burch and Sylvester Haines as a railroad town on the tracks of the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. Erie became an agricultural center due to its fertile soil and proximity to silver mines in Gunnison and other mining towns in central Colorado. The arrival of the American Railway Company (AR) during the late 19th century made Erie one of the most important railroads in western North America. The AR built a large network of lines from eastern Canada to Denver and points east. In 1903, AR merged with Southern Pacific Railroad to form the Northern Pacific Railway. By 1915, much of what is now Clear Creek County had been developed as residential neighborhoods within miles of downtown Erie. However, economic decline during World War I led to heavy out-migration from Erie; by 1922 only 6% of the population remained intown compared with 60% in 1920. Since then, growth has gradually resumed as more people have moved into inner-city areas near major highways such as Interstate 25 outside downtown or into suburban communities along I-25 or US Routes 24 and 26 outside town limits
Erie was founded in 1857 by George Stephenson and his engineer, James Watt. The city became a major rail center during the late 19th century due to its location at the confluence of the Susquehanna River and Erie Canal. In 1907, Erie was designated as the capital of Colorado by then-Governor John Evans. Erie has experienced many growth opportunities over the years, most notably during the downtown area's revitalization following its designation as an urban district in 2002.
