The program was created to help ensure that Marines who are deployed have the best possible chance of receiving the items they need and want. Since its inception, the Marines Deployment Gift History program has helped countless Marines receive what they need and what they want while on deployment. Some of the most common items gift-givers give to Marines are clothes, books, electronics, tools, and more. One of the most memorable deployments for marines was during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In 2003, nearly 2,000 marines were sent to Iraq as part of Operation Neptune’s Spear. This deployment saw many unique gifts given to marines from all over the United States. Marines live and die by their service to their country and its people. This is why it is so important that we remember the Marines who have served before us and those who are currently serving. The Marine Corps was founded in 1775 as a response to the American Revolution. The Marines were first used as light infantry during the Revolutionary War, but soon became known for their bravery and fighting skills. During World War II, marines fought in every theater of war including Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa, and Americas Southwest Pacific Theater. They played a significant role in saving American lives and defeating Axis forces. Since Vietnam’s Tet Offensive in 1969, marine units have again shown their stripes by participating in overseas deployments across multiple continents including Afghanistan and Iraq. It truly is an honor to serve our country with the marines; they are a highly trained force that fight hard every day when called into action. Our soldiers go above and beyond what is required of them to protect our citizens both at home and abroad- something that cannot be measured by numbers alone!
