Erie, Colorado is a small town in the Rocky Mountains of western Colorado. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Erie is located on the Arkansas River and is bordered by Larimer County to the north, Montrose County to the east, and Park County to the south. The first European settlers in what is now Erie arrived in 1859 when Colonel Augustus Earle sold land to David Humphreys and John Dickey for $3 per acre. The town was named after George Washington's home state of Virginia, which Earle had visited while on a military campaign against Mexico in 1848. Erie's economy primarily depends on agriculture and ranching. In 2007, Erie was named "America's Most Liveable City." The roots of present-day Erie go back even further than that: its founders were drummer Friedrich Wilhelm Lueder (1796-1868) and his wife Anna Catharine (née Cramer). Lueder purchased 640 acres of farmland southeast of what is now downtown Erie from Daniel Boone in 1825 for just $5 per acre – an unheard-of price at that time! The couple began growing crops and built a log cabin as their homestead – later known as Lueders Cabin - soon after purchase. In 1830 they married Anna Catharine's sister Margaret (Maggie) Booth who also lived there with them until her death in 1865; she had been born about two years before their parents did. From then on it was usually Maggie or Margaret who took care of all aspects of running the property including farming, trading with other settlements along the Arkansas River Valley, cooking meals for travelers passing through their area or helping out when needed – something that still happens today among local farmers & ranchers! Cameos from areas near Buffalo Bill National Monument can be seen throughout much of this area: In front of Lueders Cabin sits a large boulder made mostly out of iron salvaged from a locomotive used during construction restoration work at nearby Bighorn Mountain Railway Museum; behind Maggie’s house are several large boulders quarried from nearby red sandstone cliffs used to line mileslong irrigation ditches; one can see remnants of an old blacksmith shop next door across Main Street from where equipment once stood destined for building new churches some time ago but have since been replaced by apartments… etc etc etc

Erie's history dates back to 1868 when gold was discovered in this area. The city was incorporated on December 15, 1887. Erie is the seat of county government for District 1 and has a total land area of just over 4 square miles (10 km²). The first settler in what is now Erie was John C. Fremont who arrived in 1847 from Illinois. He platted the town of Fremont on the north side of Canisteo Creek and named it after himself – Erie, or "the river that runs to the sea." Other early settlers were John Prentice and his family, James McGillivray and wife Sarah Patton, James Hildebrandt and wife Emma Fenton, Isaac Watts and family with their home at 8th Street (now Main), Hiram Smith and family with their property east of Ninth Avenue (now Seventh Avenue), George Stephenson with his coal mine south of Fourth Street (now Washington Boulevard), Ebenezer Morse with his mill along Third Street between Eighth Avenue and Ninth Avenue, among others. In 1870s construction began on the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad which would later become part of Comcast Corporation. This railroad brought workers to build a new town called Niagara Falls which was founded by businessman Territorial Governor David Atchison in 1871 as an engineering center for development around Fort Collins. Amtrak moved its station from Greeley to Buffalo Gap in 1982 but continued services into Erie until 1997 when those operations were transferred to Grand Central Terminal in New York City effective January 1st 1998
