Evans is located on the eastern edge of the San Juan County seat of Pueblo and became part of Pueblo after it was annexed from Santa Fe County in 1912. The early history of Evans can be traced back to 1872 when James Gentry settled on land east of what is now Evans Street. Gentry named his new town after his brother-in-law, John Fenton Evans, who had come to Colorado as a mining engineer during the Gold Rush years. This annexation created an area that contained over 3,000 residents and gave rise to one of the most popular places in all OFA for summer getaways – Lake Powell!
