The Coast Guard gift history in Evans, Colorado dates back to the early 1900s. The first Coast Guard Station in Evans was established on September 3rd, 1909. That same year, the Evans Volunteer Fire Department was organized and donated their equipment to the Coast Guard. In 1912, the first electric lightboat was donated to the Coast Guard by Mrs. Lillie Kipperman of Evans. From that time until 1957, the Coast Guard Gift Shop operated out of 4th Street Naval Base in Evans. In 1957, the Headquarters for District Four were relocated from Fort Collins to Evans and operations of District Four were transferred to Shipping Board Administration Building at 517 N First St., Suite 400 in Evanston (now part of Navy Yard). On December 1st, 1963, a new Commandant’s House and Annex were dedicated at 801 S Broadway in Evans after years of design work by architects J.C. Priestley & Sons Incorporated which included sketches and engineering drawings done by John Cavanaugh with help from Captain James Prentice from Fort Collins (now retired). The property had been owned by Mr. Hapgood since 1915 when he donated it as a place for use as a military airfield during World War I NoAH #9115-A-1-4L-15 also known as “Hapgood Field” or simply “Hapgood Airfield” with an addition hangar built on top for use as a training school for pilots cadets during World War II NoAH #9115G-1-2L-8 Today’s helicopter landing area is located just north of Highway 24 off US Highway 36 east of Ute Pass National Forest near milepost 6 on route 17 called Hwy 18 trending NW towards Mesa Verde Wilderness Preserve

Evans has been a community in the Denver area for over 100 years. The town was named after Captain James Evans, who led a Coast Guard detachment that helped suppress Notch's Rebellion in 1868. In 1936, the Colorado General Assembly pooled money from state and local taxes to create the Colorado State Patrol. Evans became part of this force, and its first station was located in the town. In 1942, the state patrol began providing protection along the Pacific coast of Colorado. Evans is known for its wide range of natural resources and its unique history. The town was named after George Washington Evans, an early settler and surveyor in what is now Evans County. The first permanent residents of Evans were people from Virginia who arrived around 1800. By 1825, there were about 25 families living in what is now Evans County. most of which had come overland from Virginia or through land grants from the United States government. The first schools in the area were built by local farmers to teach children how to farm and ranching skills. In 1868, George Washington Evans founded what is now Evansville as a trading post on the upper Arkansas River near present-day Telluride. The post served as a point of entry into southern Colorado for pioneers heading westward into what are today Adams and Weld counties. After months of construction, including work by local citizens and volunteers, Evans Post Office opened on November 1, 1870. The town’s growth paralleled that of nearby Telluride until 1914 when annexation by Telluride made it one municipality with a total population of 24,782 (17 plus 7 unincorporated areas). In that year, two new towns – La Jolla and Canon City – were established within walking distance of Evansville proper while still maintaining their separate identities. It wasn’t until 1984 that all three towns amalgamated under one name: Evansville! Today, however, La Jolla remains an independently incorporated community while Canon City has become part of Sante Fe Springs (population: 27,000) beside Interstate 70 just outside townlimits). In addition to its rich natural resources such as coal beds along the Arkansas River Valley and oil deposits off I-70’s junction with I-25 near Denver/Aurora Airport; Edwards Air Force Base provides another major economic stimulus toEvans economy each month during peak military use periods (late fall through early spring) due to employment at bases throughout western Colorado Springs/Denver vicinity; numerous companies have moved into or relocated their operations to this growing city since late 1990s thanks both to advances in technology & globalization; professional sports teams currently playing at several venues within easy driving distance including Dick’s Sporting Goods Park (MLB), PepsiCo Park (NCAA baseball), University Sports Complex (US Lacrosse), FirstEnergy Stadium (NFL football) & newly renovated George Washingtons Presidential Library annexe; many small businesses have also been established around downtown core providing services such as retail wine sales., restaurants & daycare provider options

Evans, Colorado is a town in Mesa County, Colorado, United States. The population was 597 at the 2010 census. Evans began as a post office in 1887 and was incorporated as a city in 1907. Evans is located on the eastern edge of Mesa County and is bordered by Grand Junction to the south, Westminster to the east, Canon City to the north and Pueblo to the west. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Evans in 1849. They were Mormon pioneers who had come from Utah Territory. A post office was established at Evans on February 14, 1887, and it served until January 1, 1911. It was then renamed Canon City because of its location on Canonsville Rd., which became part of US-8 within Mesa County. The first mayor of Evans was Jno Sayers withresidential areas stretching northward from Canon City into Grand Junction before finally reaching Pueblo proper only in 1959 when that city annexed Evans Village adjacent to its municipal limits
