Gourmet Coffee History in Fort Collins, Colorado began with a small café called The Dutch Bros. on Main Street in the early 1920s. The café was started by brothers John and Hendrik Dutch and their wives, Oma and Opa. They served coffee made fresh from the beans at their home in a small room above the grocery store. The Dutch Bros.' first location was at 6th and Market Streets in Fort Collins. In 1927, they moved to 8th Avenue and Curtis Road where they continued to serve coffee until 1957 when they closed up shop. In 1968, Groom's Coffee opened on North First Street near Westminster High School. This business was started by Tom Groom who had been purchasing ground coffee from The Dutch Bros.' customers for his own use distribution center located behind his house on Garden Lane near Aspen Lakes Drive. Tom Groom passed away in 1992 but his legacy lives on through Groom's Coffee which continues to serve delicious gourmet coffee every day of the year!

Fort Collins is a small city in the San Miguel County of Colorado, United States. The population was 37,031 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Collins–Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlement in what is now Fort Collins was made by two men, George Arapaho and Juan Ortiz on July 10, 1859. The site that would become Fort Collins was chosen because it could be defended by having two hills with high walls around it. As time went on more settlements were made and eventually a fort was built to protect these sites. In 1912, Congress purchased 640 acres (252 ha) of land east of downtown for $1 million to create the present-day city limits. In 1914, construction began on what would become one of the most important civic landmarks in town – City Hall. This building served as both a government center and as the home of municipal court until it burned down in 1978. On November 17, 1928, voters approved annexation by Aurora Township which also included parts of today's north end and west side of town. On February 14, 1929 incorporation took place with John Haggerty as Mayor and Ethel Kappelman as Vice Mayor serving concurrently until her death on December 2nd due to leukemia; she had been appointed by Governor Elmer Robinson to serve out her unexpired term following his resignation effective December 1st due to health reasons unrelated to his wife's illness which he attributed to stress from office duties plus beingaulted during campaign season). On January 16th 1930 Aurora Township trustees changed their name from "Aurora Township" (the original name) to "FortCollins." On October 15th 1933n another vote resulted in annexing Valhalla Rancho into FtCollins after constituents petitioned for this change citing concerns about possible flooding from nearby Fountain Creek if Valhalla were left unincorporated since there are no water protection measures within city limits or even within Aurora Township! Accordingtoone source FortCollins annexed 3 other properties between 1919-1933: North Park (now called University Hill), South Park (now called Cathedral Hills), and East Meadow (now known as Belleview). However annexation did not occur at each address because requests by those properties' owners were either refused or not received properly certified postal notice/mailings!
Fort Collins was founded in 1872 as a military post on the Colorado Plateau. The city was named for General John A. Fortescue, who served as the first commander of Fort Collins. The fort was used to train troops during the Mexican-American War and also played an important role in the American Civil War. The fort closed in 1886 and was replaced by Fort Collins Municipal Airport.
