Since the beginning of the 20th century, Fort Morgan has been a military town. This is most evident in the form of its three military units that have operated here since the days of Colorado’s Pony Express: The 1st Infantry Regiment (1868-1902), 3rd Infantry Regiment (1902-1914), and 4th Infantry Regiment (1914-present). Today, Fort Morgan boasts an active Army garrison, complete with barracks and a number of eateries and stores for soldiers on leave. The first fortification in what is now Fort Morgan was built by the United States in 1867 as part of a larger land purchase from Mexico. The fortifications were completed during Reconstruction following America’s post-Civil War victory. At their height, these walls extended to 6 miles north and south and 8 miles east and west. In 1902, when Colorado became a state, Ft. Morgan became one of its primary military installations. As part of Colorado Department Of Public Safety jurisdiction, it played an important role in law enforcement until 1978 when it was transferred to Army control completely under Title 10 U.S.C., which authorizesArmy Officers only to make arrests within their own division or detachment; no farther than twelve miles from any major city or town in the United States “for purposes connected with disturbances involving violence or destruction thereof or for other public police duties”(10 USC § 207). TodayFort Morgan remains an active duty installation with over 5500 military personnel stationed here divided into two brigades: II Corps Headquarters Brigade – headquartered at Company Barracks 2 (CW2) – responsible for all aspects within I Corps headquarters area; First Battalion (1st Marine Division) – responsible for artillery support within I Corps Headquarters Brigade area; Third Battalion (3rd Marines) – responsible for providing security for supply convoys moving through I Corps Headquarters Brigade area; Fourth Battalion (4th Marines) – responsible for providing security for both brigade areas while Reserve components are called up to full strength status; Fifth Battalion/7th Armor Brigade Support Team - located at Garrison Area A - provides sustainment forces necessary to execute joint missions assigned by brigadier general commanding First Armored District based out of Denver; Sixth Brigade Combat Team - located at Garrison Area C provides logistics support essential to executing joint missions assigned by brigadier general commanding First Armored District based out of Denver also present are Air Defense Artillery Battery 1A located on Post #4 providing fire support against aerial threats including manned aircraft flown into airspace near FtMorgen Airport Assembling Soldiers at Gateways Park In 1861 after the Civil War ended General Order No 12 gave command responsibility to Major General John J Pershing Jr., Commander Western Command who placed Fort Garland on Drury Lane just east of FtMorgen Creek between Pikes Peak Hill and Brushy Range across from what is now Colo Springs General Order No 17 established winter quarters at East Portal where Camp Bowie now stands before moving Westward along Red River Valley towards Canon City Crossing Red River about 1875 where they camped near today’s Parker Ranch Road Pioneer Settlement today's Old Mission Rd El Paso County Sheriff Joe Arpaio had his office constructed adjacent so he could monitor operations from his location North side Of Interstate 25

The Fort Morgan, Colorado Infantry Regiment was organized on November 5, 1881. The regiment numbered 1st and 2nd Battalions. The regiment was deployed to the Mexican border in October 1882 as part of the US military effort to stop the spread of slavery. On May 6, 1886, the Fort Morgan Infantry Regiment was redesignated as the Fort Morgan Cavalry Regiment. In 1898, following the Spanish-American War, when soldiers from other parts of Colorado were called up for service in Cuba, Fort Morgan’s infantry battalion became part of the 7th Cavalry Regiment which served in that conflict. Finally on July 14, 1912, when Coloradan troops were called up for World War I service and Ready Reserve Colonel John A. Moss ordered all cavalry companies within his command to become infantry Companies C through F assembled into one battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Hodge and assigned it to Fort Morgan Army Post. Following World War II FtMorng's cavalry company became Company P which continues present day operations with a detachment at Alamosa County Fairgrounds
Fort Morgan was founded in 1867 by Major General James H. Lane and Colonel George J. Bridger as a military post on the confluence of the Animas and Rio Grande Rivers. The fort served as a base for both Indian and white operations in the area, conducted expeditions into neighboring Colorado and New Mexico, and was also home to one of the first schools in that region. In 1912, Fort Morgan was renamed Fort Carson after Major General John F. Carson, who led an expedition against Apache Indians in Arizona. In 1928, Fort Morgan became one of six United States military posts within the Presidio of San Francisco County; it remained there until 1976 when it was transferred toselt to Santa Clara County. The fort at Fort Morgan is significant not just for its history but also for its architecture which has been described as “the most advanced U.S.- Mexican architecture” because of its use of stone, adobe, and mortar instead of wood or metal construction techniques common at that time. The buildings were designed by American architect Horace Richardson with assistance from Mexican architects José de Jesús Real y Marín and Antonio López de Gómez y Avilés. The fortifications at Fort Morgan were initially constructed using materials available at the time: crude masonry walls made from earth, brushwood, straw, flour sacks filled with water or bricks (which then had to be baked), and sod (a type of earth). However, over time they were supplemented with more technological advances such as man-portable guns mounted on two wheels that could be moved around the battlefields inside or outside the fortifications. For example, during World War II an Italian-made gun known as il M1A1C “Patton” was stationed at Fort Morgan; it fired 1 million rounds per day from a barrel that weighed only 20 pounds! TodayFort Morgan is open to visitors who can explore its many exhibits including a museum dedicated to American Indian History which contains artifacts from both Native American cultures and Spanish missions; a children’s play area featuring games like cornhole; a bookstore specializing in Texas Rangers Comics books; an amphitheater where performances are held each summertime featuring various music styles; picnic areas located throughout the park including ones adjacent to dog parks where people can eat their lunch while watching dogs play fetch;and even an observation tower overlooking part of town!

Fort Morgan is a small town located inthe County of Fort Morgan, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It was named for Major General Philip Sheridan and his brigade of cavalry which fought at the Battle of Fort Doniphan on November 6, 186. The first permanent settler in what is now Fort Morgan was Peter Hegarty who arrived in 1869. His son John Hegarty founded a sawmill and gristmill near present-day downtown Fort Morgan. The next year, he married Isabella Fenton and started an academy to educate Native Americans about Christianity. In 1875, they built a log cabin on the east side of the river near where Highway 24 crosses it today. They called their home "Hegarty's Point". In 1880, rancher Wm Sibley opened up a cattle ranch along the east bank of the Arkansas River north of present-day Fort Morgan. By 1890, his ranches included over 5 miles (8 km) of trails leading to his holdings in western Colorado and eastern Wyoming Territory. Sibley also began developing agricultural land around Ft. Morgan for growing crops such as corn and beans; this led to increased trade with Mexico City through the area during those years. In 1902, when war broke out between America and Spain over Cuba, many American citizens decided to move into what is now Fort Morgan because they felt its proximity would protect them from Spanish aggression should things go sour with Havana itself Most residents here were farmers but there were some businessmen who had businesses in town like Hagerty Machine Works (now known as regional retailer Hobby Lobby) that moved into town after World War II ended During that time there was also an armaments plant run by Eastman Kodak which produced film used by Hollywood studios until 1976 When that plant closed down too many people left town so Kodak merged with Eastman Chemical Company which continued making film until 2006 As a result of all this business activity some new buildings were built including: The old Pueblo High School which still stands today; The Community Center; A Recreation Area; A Police Department; And A Hospital
The Fort Morgan Massacre was a bloody shootout that took place on October 16, 1876, at theFort Morgan Ranch in present-dayColorado. The battle began after Native Americans opened fire on U.S. Cavalry troopers while they were attacking a ranch house near the fort. Thirty-six people were killed and over eighty were wounded in the exchange of gunfire.
