In 1881, Fort Morgan was the first military post in what is now Colorado. It functioned as a fortification and parade ground for the mountain village of Arvada. The post was renamed Marine Barracks in 1903, and then Fort Morgan Barracks in 1912. In 1944, Marines were deployed to Japan as part of World War II and the post served as a garrison until 1957 when it became an active duty base. In 1978, Marines were again deployed to Japan during the Falklands War and the post served as a garrison until 1984. In 1992-1994, Marines were deployed to Haiti during Operation Restore Hope and the post served until 2000 when it was closed down due to budget cuts. The Marine Barracks reopened in 2001 as a museum dedicated to marines who have served from Fort Morgan. Since 1861 whenFort Morgan was established as a militarypost by order of Governor James Wetherbee, there has been increasing support for marine detachments stationed here at various times throughout history. Fort Morgan is a town in San Juan County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,929 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Collins–Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit the area were Spanish traders and missionaries in 1776. In 1855, gold was discovered near Fort Morgan and soon enough, it became a major tourist destination. Mining began on nearby Alloway Ridge in 1861 and led to the construction of many buildings and roads within what is now Fort Morgan. By 1870, there were over 100 businesses in town with a payroll of $10 million dollars. In 1907, the fortifications around town were built to prevent any more gold discoveries. Today, Fort Morgan retains its importance as a tourist destination but also experiences some commercial growth thanks to its location close to Interstate 25 and other transportation options. The fortifications still remain an important part of townscape and can be seen from many areas including downtown and along Arenas Boulevard which runs through the heart of town

Fort Morgan was a small fort built in 1881 on the Powder River. It served as a garrison for the nearby town of Fort Collins and as a depot for goods arriving from the surrounding area. It was eventually abandoned in 1908 and its remains were destroyed by fire in 1950. The fort was first erected on the site of an earlier Mexican post, which had been abandoned when gold was discovered at Pueblo Viejo in 1859. The fort was actually completed only two years after gold had been discovered, during a time when most of Colorado was still under Mexican control. When Colorado became an American state in 1861, Fort Morgan served as its primary garrison until it was replaced by Fort Collins in 1875. Fort Morgan played an important role during both the Gold Rush era and the Pony Express era. During the Gold Rush, it acted as a guardpost on the Comanche Trail between Tucson and Denver; during the Pony Express era, it transported goods between Denver and Larimer County via wagon road. The fort also housed a school from 1881 to 1907; however, due to its proximity to Fort Collins, most of this structure fell into disrepair over time. In 1950, however, part of the fort's ruins were destroyed by fire while being used for storage purposes within Fort Collins proper.
Fort Morgan was founded in 1876 as a military post on the edge of the Rocky Mountains. It became an important stopping point for travelers heading north to Colorado, and later became a center of livestock trade. The fort was closed in 1898 after a fire destroyed most of it.
