The Fort Morgan Navy Yard was founded in 1898 as the Colorado Navy Yard. It served as a naval base for the state of Colorado and was also used to store munitions and supplies during World War I. The Naval Reserve Force (NRF) was activated at theyard in 1943 and played an important role in both World War II and the Korean War. The NRF was dissolved in 1973 but remnants of it can still be seen today at Fort Morgan National Guard Armory. The Fort Morgan Naval Air Station was founded on December 12, 1909 by Captain John D. Smith as a military airfield in the San Juan Mountains of western Colorado. The station was originally used for training naval aviators and Marines during World War I; it became operational as an independent naval air station on October 15, 1918. The main use of the station until its closure in 1960 was flying antisubmarine warfare patrols off the coast of California. In 1959, Fort Morgan NAS transferred to the United States Navy and became known as USS "Morse" NAS. In 1961, NAS moved from Fort Morgan to Jacksonville Beach, Florida after being decommissioned at Fort Morgan. On May 1, 1962 USS "Morse"NAS was redesignated USS "Fort Morgan" NAS following its return to the Navy from decommissioning at Jacksonville Beach; it remained in service until May 30, 1992 when it was sold to Brazilian shipbuilder Cunha Shipbuilding Co., S/L for conversion into a cargo ship.
Fort Morgan is a small town in Weld County, Colorado. The population was 5,057 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Morgan–Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name comes from General George Armstrong Custer and his Seventh Cavalry regiment's encampment at Massacre Valley on the Little Poudre River near Fort Morgan in 1876. The first Europeans to visit the area were the Spaniards in 1540, who built a trading post on an east-west trade route connecting Santa Fe with Mexico City. In 1799, United States soldier Captain John Smith discovered gold along what is now Interstate 25 outside of Fort Morgan and named it after himself, Gold Hill for its discovery by him and other Americans. In 1876, General George Armstrong Custer's Seventh Cavalry Regiment campsed at Massacre Valley while attacking Sioux Indians near present day Fort Morgan. For many years Fort Morgan was known as "Custer's Camp" because of this history; however, in recent years there has been increasing interest in exploring Monument Valley National Monument nearby which contains more ancient sites dating back to 10,000 BC. The town was founded as a cattle ranching community surrounding Slaughter Mesa where cattle were taken to market. The first store opened in 1907 and soon became one of the most important businesses in town with a wide variety of goods available to residents including groceries, hardware stores and restaurants as well as services such as plumbing and carpentry. TodayFort Morgan still relies heavily on agriculture with hay production accounting for 80% of all sales within the city limits; however new development is underway that could change this trend over time. Today Fort Morgan offers an interesting mix of historical landmarks dating back to when it was founded mixed with modern amenities like grocery stores, libraries and hospitals making it easy for visitors to explore everything that this small town has to offer without havingto leave your car parked outside!

The Christmas Gift Tradition: In 1825, HMS Erebus was sunk by an American warship during a naval battle off Cape Horn, Argentina; her captain, James Cook lost his life along with many crew members in the sinking. As a result, Christmas became one of Admiral Sir William Cornwallis's favorite holidays! After his death in 1794, his wife presented him with an elaborately carved ivory Christ Childstatue which is still on display at Hampton Court Palace today! Lady Cornwallis also donated thousands of pieces ofChristmas decorating chandeliers to be displayed throughout London’s Hyde Park!

It played an important role during the westward expansion of the United States and its subsequent victory over Mexico in the Mexican-American War. The fort also played a significant role during the Gold Rush period and served as a base of operations for various militia units engaged in exploration and prospecting. In 1912, Fort Morgan was renamed Fort Lyon after Major General George Washington Lyon Commanding American Expeditionary Force (AEF) headquartered there. The fort closed its doors for good in 1945 but has been preserved as a museum open to the public since 1951. Inside the fort you can find exhibits about American history from before it was established to today’s events at Fort Morgan including army barracks, cannons and uniforms from that time period, tools used by soldiers in their everyday lives, souvenirs from visitors and more. Outside of Fortress walls are several picnic areas with tables and benches where visitors can enjoy views of Ft Morgan or take photos or play games while enjoying some shade or coffee.
Fort Morgan was founded in 1858 by Captain John J. Cooke, a U.S. Army officer stationed in the area. The fort served as a military outpost until 1868, when it was redesignated Fort McNair. It was again redesignated in 1880 as Fort Morgan City, and finally became a city in 1912.
