Fountain is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. It is the most populous community in Weld County and the second-largest municipality by population after Greeley. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. Fountain is part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live on Fountain were prospectors who traveled through the area in 1876. The town was founded as a trading post called "Fountain" in 1878 by Jeptha Hargrave and his family. The name was changed to "Fountain" because of its location at a spring that supplied water for many farms near Fort Bridger. In 1902, Harry Sibley donated land on which Fountain High School now stands. In 1951, Fountain became home to the world's first municipal golf course when PGA Tour golfer Jay LaBounty designed and built Sunrise Golf Links adjacent to his farmhouse. For many years it was considered one of the best courses in North America, until it closed in 1986 due to deteriorating infrastructure and an increase in traffic caused by nearby Interstate 70 construction projects. In 2006, city officials decided not to pursue reopening Sunrise Golf Links as they felt that there would be no economic return on investment given current conditions; however, private donations have made new development possible nearby including an 8-acre (3 ha) park with interpretive exhibits about local history and culture and a 9-hole championship golf course called Meadowlands Golf Course which opened in fall 2015 features some of Colorado's best architecture from existing homes along with brand new amenities like restaurant/bar/nightlife options

Fountain is a town in Mesa County, Colorado, United States. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. Fountain was founded in 1867 by Manuel Gomez and named for the nearby Fountain of Youth fountain. The name change to Fountain because of the numerous sandstone spouts that form around it. The first post office was established in 1868, and the townoki (town) was organized February 15, 1870. The townsite had been surveyed by George Prentice in 1864 but not built on until 1860 when A.T. Dodge donated land to make it possible. In 1870, Jethro Gibbs donated another piece of land which formed today's east side of town and also contains some of the original homes from when Fountain was founded. The name "Fountain" has been used continuously ever since as part of the community's name- usage dating back to when people lived near water sources for irrigation purposes or hunted game near springs for food (see: History of Fountain). In 1907, there were only 7 residents living in what is now known as downtown Fountain; however, with the construction of Interstate 25 bypassing town limits and commuters traveling through Mesa County on their way to Phoenix or Albuquerque daily this grew into an overwhelming problem so a new city hall building was constructed next door to former grocery store/cafeteria across from Mesa Community College before being renamed City Hall Park in 1998 after then-Mayor Dick Kiley inauguration ceremonies took place there that year Additionally much development has taken place outside the bounds of downtown over recent years such as on West First Street just south of I-25 access where residences have replaced stores and restaurants line up along one side while businesses continue along the other creating what is now called "The Village". With continued growth plans are being made for Downtown areas including an arena/park project currently under consideration adjacent to WFCA TV station making it very likely that more than just downtown will become known as "Fountain" over time

Fountain first appears on maps in 1868 when it was part of the Fort Lyon Indian Reservation. It was named for John Fountain, an employee of the Colorado Central Railway. In 1881, the town took its name from John Muir's original homesteading ranch in what is now east-central Mesa County.
