Fountain, Colorado is a small town in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The population was 805 at the 2010 census. It is located in Logan County. The town is named after Fountain Creek, which flows through it. The first settlement in what is now Fountain was made by fur traders around 1812. A post office called Fountain was established in 1825, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1876, a group of businessmen founded the first grocery store in western Colorado Springs. The store had two stories and a floor for storage and served as the nucleus of what became known as the "Grocery Row" of downtown Denver. In 1905, jurors awarded $5 million to John Daugherty for injuries he sustained when his horse stepped on a mine shaft while working near Aspen Lake outside of Denver; this event helped spur development along Fountain Avenue eastward from Golden to Aspen Park neighborhoods within DowntownDenver beyond Aurora Avenue (later renamed West Capitol Hill neighborhood), finally reaching Broadway/24th Street NE today's University District - all without an express bus service then or now!
