Fountain is a town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Westminster–Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fountain was founded in 1865 by pioneer John Dickey and his family as a rancho on the east side of the San Juan River. A post office was established at Fountain in 1868, and two years later, the name was changed to Fountain Springs after a spring found nearby. The first store in Fountain opened in 1870. By 1875, citizens of Fountain had constructed a school and waterworks which supplied irrigation for nearby farms and ranches. In 1880, John Dickey's son-in-law Jethro Farnsworth donated land to build an avenue leading from downtown to his father's rancho restaurant called Farnsworth Heights. Today's business district centered around Farnsworth Heights flows down the original roadbed that connected it to Fountain before turning southeast into present day Park Meadows neighborhoods just south of I-25 exit 163 (the former Highway 25). In 1906, when Denver annexed Douglas County, Fountain became part of Denver city limits along with Aurora and Greenwood Village. By 1907 there were over 20 businesses located within one mile (1 km) of downtown Denver proper including six stores on Cherry Street between 14th and 17th Streets NW; four motion pictures theaters; seventeen livery stables; seven banks; three hotels; eight grocery stores; five Masonic lodges; eleven schools (grades PreK through 12th); twelve churches (Anglican & Pentecostal); fourteen service stations serving motorists on both I-25 northbound and southbound during peak hours betweenDenver & Aurora Airport - this exceeds any other city or county within Denver’s limits! In 1912 when Colorado became statehood its seat again shifted from Denver to Boulder where it remains today with only limited changes taking place until recently with City Hall moving outrated School District 5 Elementary located just east of Interstate 25 & 14th Ave N between Cherry & Euclid streets without replacement being made since then! Fountain is a small mountain town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Grand Junction metropolitan area. Fountain was founded in 1868 by settlers from Illinois and named for the Fountain of Youth located near Rome, Italy. The first post office in Fountain was established on November 15, 1870. The name of the town was changed to Fountain in 1897 after it merged with nearby Loveland. In 1902, the first oil well was drilled in the area and began production of natural gas which led to some growth within the community; however, this growth stopped when fracking became popular as it caused significant environmental damage. In 1996-1997, following a fire that destroyed much of downtown Fountain and killed one person and injured several more, a $2 million dollar grant from President Clinton helped rebirth downtown as an arts center with new restaurants and shops opening up along with a newer fountain complex complete with two theaters and three exhibition halls. At present day there are over twenty businesses including five banks in downtown while another six are currently under development or have announced plans to open soon including a hotel/motel/restaurant complex on Main Street called "The Depot". In recent years there has been an increase in tourism due to its history as well as its natural resources such as waterfalls and forests which can be seen from many places around town including Montrose Summit Ski Resort on neighboring Monument Peak National Monument
Fountain is a town in Mesa County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Mesa County. Fountain was founded by Jacob Fountain and his family in 1868. He named it for the nearby Fountain of Peace, which he had seen on a visit to Denver two years earlier. The town became a small agricultural community until the early 1900s when new industries began to develop around its center including agriculture, metalworking, and petrochemical production. In 1925, Roosevelt High School opened in Fountain and soon became one ofColorado's most popular schools; it remains an all-girls school today. In 1956, the US Interstate 25 bypassed downtown Mesa County and crossed through Fountain without any defensive measures in order to improve access to other parts of Colorado; as a result, many businesses closed down or moved out during this time period which affected the overall economic stability of the town. However, despite these difficulties some people still remain active in Fountaintown such as owner/operator of Roosevelt High School Sandra Brown who has been running her school since 1988 and helps manage day-to-day operations while also working with AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) to keep her building up and running year round.
