Fountain is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 697 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Fountain" originated from an early Irrigation District which built two reservoirs around Fountain Creek to provide water for crops and livestock in the area. The community began as a small settlement on Mountain View Mesa just east of present-day Fountain. In 1892, members of the First Presbyterian Church bought 640 acres (248 ha) of land east of current-day Fountain and founded the town of Fountain on it. The first post office was established in 1893, and by 1900 there were six residents living in Fountain proper and twelve more scattered around its periphery. A school was started in 1903 but closed due to financial difficulties; however, a fire destroyed most buildings in 1912 that forcedilation tactics had to be used to get water to fires burning within radius limits set by local officials so that no one building got too much damage. In 1916 Milton Crouse developed what became known as "Crouse's Corners", an area northeast of town center where he deposited cornstarch bags full of sandbags filled with nails into crevices between rock outcrops in order to cause them to burst when stepped on; this helped him obtain irrigation water necessary for his corn crop which had been struggling without it since before he began using it In 1924 Montrose East High School opened its doors after years of planning by then Superintendent John Laughlin and many donations from citizens including Mrs. Henshaw who raised $3,500 (). After World War II growth stalled until new housing developments came online particularly west of Interstate 25 (the 'Granite Belt'). Fountain, Colorado is a town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 4,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greeley–Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fountain was founded in 1876 by wagon train travelers on the east side of the San Juan Mountains. The town became a post office in 1880 and a mining town in 1885. In 1912, it became an agricultural center with several small farms and a sawmill established. A large dairy farm began operation in 1928 and ended up being one of the largest dairy operations in Weld County. In 1957, Fountain opened its first high school which served as the local public school until 1998 when it merged into Greeley High School. In 1984, Fountain incorporated as a city and has since grown to be one of southern Colorado's most populous cities with over 8,000 residents. The name "Fountain" comes from nearby Pikes Peak (3,643 feet (1,047 m)). The peak's prominence made it an ideal location for settlers to build their homes and churches during what was called "the Gold Rush." By 1870 there were some 300 people living near Pikes Peak; however by 1880 this number had increased to 1,500 people! Over time many businesses/houses were built on or around Pikes Peak including: hotels (1896), restaurants (1927), store fronts (1948), banks (! 1908), LDS Chapel (1924-Present) - now known as First Baptist Church ("Pioneer Park"), Nursing Home #5 & 6 ('86-present) - now home to Keystone Heights Senior Living Village ('04-'09)'s 2nd oldest nursing home (#10th oldest). In 1924-25 two families started building what would become known as Pioneer Park on top of Pikes Peak; this park includes 3 miles (~5 km) of hiking trails that lead down to Crested Butte Lake which offers fishing opportunities for both trout and bass! This area also included playgrounds for children and picnic areas for Adults! Today those memories stillexist today at Pioneer Park where you can find giant swings (#2 remains standing from original construction date!), play structures complete with water fountains designed by famed architect George Hargrave – father of modern day architecture – along with his son's design work on Denver State Capitol Building – also located adjacent to Pioneer Park! With over 100 years experiences associated with it – Frontier Days are celebrated annually here every May 10th surrounded by activities such as arts and crafts demonstrations from local artists followed by dinner at Eagle Glen Farms Inn & Spa!.
