The Air Force deployed a gift to the Fruita community in 1984. The gift was a plane hangar and associated tools and equipment, which has been used by the Air Force for various purposes ever since. The hangar is now used as the headquarters of the Air Force Museum in Fruita.

The gift was presented by Colonel Jeff Hemenway, commander of the 1st Fighter Wing at Balad Air Base in Syria. This year, President Trump honored America’s Presidents with a special day off from work and a day to spend with family and friends. At a time when there are many challenges facing our Nation, this event underscored the importance of airpower in keeping America safe and secure. Aircraft from both U S Air Forces have been deployed throughout Syria to conduct airstrikes against ISIS targets since September 2015 as part of Operation Inherent Resolve mandate under CENTCOM command (CENTCOM=UASTFR). In total, more than 350 aircraft participated in airstrikes this year as part of Operation Inherent Resolve including 138 fighter jets, 53 bombers, 10 attack helicopters and six remotely piloted vehicles (RPV). These deployments support Operation Decisive Storm—the largest coalition effort against ISIS since George W Bush launched his Iraq War–related surge in 2003.

In recent years, Fruita has seen some significant redevelopment and progress within its boundaries due to its location close to several major highways and airports as well as new job opportunities for residents and visitors alike. In recent years Fruita has seen various events such as the Oktoberfest celebration which brings thousand of tourists to town each year; also Homecoming celebrations are held every year to commemorate returning citizens who have served or currently serve in our military or law enforcement presence here; along with numerous other local festivals throughout the year including RibFest (an annual festival celebrating local ribs), Jazz Fest (an annual event featuring jazz music performances), Pumpkin Patch Day (the first day of fall), Christmas Tree Lighting & Festival (the largest holiday celebration in town), etc.—all drawing thousands of people each year to enjoy all that this small community has to offer!
Fruita was founded in 1881 by John and Fannie Green. The Green family operated a farm until 1911 when they sold the land to the Fruita Company. The company built a sawmill, gristmill, and other mills in the town. In 1912, the company merged with another mill owner to form the Fruita & District Mills Company. The company continued to operate until 1967 when it merged with The Western Colorado Corporation.
