In Fruita, Colorado, there was a small but dedicated artisan coffee community that produced some of the most distinguished and well-known coffee beans in the United States. These beans were handpicked by local farmers, and their flavor was carefully curated for maximum deliciousness.
Fruita is a small town in southwest Colorado, United States. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Collins–Aurora, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fruita is home to the Fruita Golf Course and Fruita Lake. Fruita was founded on July 10, 1868 by John Hargrave and his wife Anna as a post office on land donated by Major General James A. Woolley in what is now Fruita Park. The town site was surveyed in 1870 and platted in 1872 by Wm. Biddle & Brothers under the name of "New Town". In 1902, after a fire destroyed most of the village, it was renamed "Fruita". From 1907 until 1949 it was known as "Dunnville". The first store opened in 1912 by J.B.. Sneath & Sons and lasted until 1916 when it closed because of World War I hostilities which closed much of Colorado's economy at that time. This store was replaced with an insurance agency in 1922 which continued until 1951 when it became a convenience store called Country Store #1 (renamed Hi-Line Store #2). When Hi-Line Stores went out OF BUSINESS during the late 1970s/early 1980s, there were only two other stores remaining - one being vacated by Methodist Church ownership and used as storage for their building while they rebuilt; this store still stands today across from First Presbyterian Church (now known as Christmastime Grocery) off Second Street corner Third Avenue). In 1985 Kipling Books moved from Denver to Centennial Village near Carbondale and decided to open their bookstore here rather than move again every few years like they had been doing for many years before that due to regulatory changes made about small bookstores operating within 500 feet of high schools or public libraries (the increased regulation had come about because local school systems were getting more money from state governments through property taxes generated from larger buildings located adjacent to such facilities). At first Kipling Books operated out of two rented trailers between Springdale Boulevard and Centennial Drive - but eventually built their own offices next door on First Avenue east of Centennial Village between Second Street North and Third Street South near FM 1411 where they remain today since 1999 (Kipling also operates an outdoor cafe next door). In early 2018 fruit producers announced plans to increase production around Fort Collins so much so that some farmers are planning on moving away from Fruita altogether if prices do not improve soon! This has caused some locals to start calling for an annexation or merger with neighboring towns including Glenwood Springs over fears that if something happens to fruit farming there will be no market left for them outside Fort Collins! As things stand right now there are very limited jobs available within 50 miles radius of Ft Collins so any loss in production would mean significant economic decline for those residing within fruit country!
