Coffee was first roasted in Fruita, Colorado in 1896. The first coffee house in the town was opened by Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Wessels. In 1903, the fruita Coffee Company was founded and operated by J.B. Flinders and his family for over fifty years until it closed in 1984.
Fruita is a town in Coryell County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from Fruita Creek and its namesake fruit trees. The first permanent settlers in Fruita were John Fenton and his family who arrived in 1876. They built a log cabin on the creek near what is now the corner of Main Street and US Highway 287. In 1881, J.Fenton& Sons started to grow apples for local markets. By 1886, they had also planted grapes and other crops on their farmstead which became known as "Fruita Vineyard." In 1907-09, General Electric erected a large power plant east of town on the site of present day Hillcrest Elementary School. When it was finished, residents began using their new capabilities to improve their quality of life by starting businesses such as grocery stores, banks etc., which led to increasing production at GE's Fruita factory until it closed in 1971. After years of decline and closure due to economic factors, much against the wishes of many residents who saw it as an unwanted development that destroyed valuable farmland and ruined access to essential services like transportation and health care; GE reopened its doors in 1987 with much fanfare but failed to live up to expectations as once again closures followed throughout most of the 1990s before finally shutting down completely in 2001 due largely to rising costs associated with modern technology advancements which made growing crops uneconomical while maintaining high levels hrs sunlight exposure difficult or impossible without specialized equipment unavailable everywhere else; however some small farmers managed to revive farming there during this time) Today Fruita has seen a resurgence with companies setting up shop here such as Amazon (headquartered here since 1997), Google Earth (founded here 1999), Apple Inc.'s Homebrew Center (opened 2006) among others creating over 100 jobs since 2007 alone according to recent estimates Governor Teller said "the Town [of Fruita] is doing very well" because "employers are coming back". He called for more money from state coffers for road repairs - something that has been ongoing unsuccessfully for years - so that businesses can continue operations unfettered by government regulations: "I would like them [the businesses] open longer hours so people can come out work", he said...Teller repeated his call for an increase in funding" after noting how long roads have become clogged with snowdrifts during recent winters: "It's not just 'closed today because we're short on cash,' but we've got vehicles stuck out there all winter trying get through those drifts". Mayor Joe McCormick commended Governor Teller's remarks saying they need money not just for road repairs but also schools expansions across town which have been stalled because taxes haven't increased recently enough: "[Gov.] Teller recognize[d] our problems," McCormick told reporters after meeting with him Thursday morning outside city hall ."

Fruita, Colorado is an unincorporated community in San Miguel County, Colorado, United States. It lies east of the San Miguel Mountains and north of the Cherry Creek Valley. The population was 705 as of the 2010 census. Fruita was founded in 1879 by a group of farmers who were looking for a new home after moving from Farmington to Greeley. The name was chosen because it had no other settlers nearby that could provide them with fruit orchard produce. The first store in Fruita opened its doors in 1886. By 1907, there were six stores and two hotels operating in Fruita. The post office operated from 1911 to 1959. In 1934, the United States Postal Service moved its operations to Fruita from Greeley and continued to serve the community until it closed down on October 12th, 2009. Since its closure, there have been efforts made by individuals and groups to bring back postal service into Fruita through various means such as petitions and grassroots activism. These efforts have not been successful so far; however, there have been plans underway for some time now to reopen what was once the US Postal Service's largest sorting center in North America outside of Denver. This would be an important addition since USPS mail services are currently available only via phone or email instead of regular postal routes within most communities across the country due to funding cuts mandated by Congress followingthe 2008 financial crisis. With all these changes taking place within local communities throughout North America during the past decade or so, it is hard not to see how Fruita might soon become something quite different than what it currently is- a small town that has seen many changes but remains largely unchanged over time thanks in part to its history and community spirit
