Fruita is a small town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. The Fruita post office was founded on December 12, 1887. Fruita is located in the Mountain Time Zone and observes Daylight Saving Time. Fruita first settled on the east side of the Flat Top Mountains near what is now Aspen Airport in 1887 by entrepreneur Augustus Ransom and his wife Emma. In 1906, fruit grower A. H. Morse donated land to make way for a new town site which would include many of today's buildings including the opera house and North High School building that still stands today. In 1911, when Fruita had a population of just 255 people, developer Charles Laughlin donated $10,000 to help build civic center and other public works in honor of his late father-in-law Daniel Wolkowsky who had served as mayor of Fruita from 1907-1911 The fruit industry became important to both locals and visitors alike after Prohibition began in 1933; with growers packing their product into caskets (which required corrugated metal boxes) and shipping it across America Oceanic Railway's transcontinental route before it could be consumed or stored illegally by organized crimesters). By 1938, local businesses were generating over $1 million per year in economic activity alone - making Fruita one of the most prosperous towns within its borders during that time period! In 1951 a fire destroyed much of downtown core but rebuilt quickly using local materials and labor with support from citizens thru grants, donations & fundraising events such as "First Friday" festivals throughout the year where residents gathered together to sell items they generated from their homes or businesses during that particular week - an annual event which continues to this day! This authorization came as quite a surprise because few people expected the measure to pass since there was significant opposition among some Businesses (& politicians!) who felt like they'd been left out altogether! At first glance it may seem like things are going swimmingly since Full City Status sounds pretty darn good right up until you realize all those pesky details about how exactly things will work ie: "how many officers are assigned to patrol our streets?" etc... fiasco ensued shortly thereafter as bureaucrats suddenly found themselves trying answer questions they didn't even know existed! Needless to say this caused major frustration amongst everyone involved leading eventually to several lawsuits (& years worth of court battles) before finally achieving Full City Status back home in 1954 ;) On January 15th 1959 Main Street officially opened following nearly two years of construction project led primarily by Mayor John Kapperer himself along with city staff members assisted by civilians (& military personnel!) during what turned out to be one very intense real estate market frenzy - something we continue today albeit under slightly different circumstances :) Today Fruita has many popular tourist attractions such asAspen Airport which serves commercial passengers with scheduled service both international & domestic flights; White Sands Missile Range which offers firing range access for tourists & researchers; Big Sky Ranch Resort which contains over 100 acres (40 hectares) devoted entirely To livestock production; Glenwood Springs National Recreation Area offers hiking/wildlife viewing opportunities thru miles (or sometimes kilometers) long trails extending Into adjacent counties including Gunnison National Park; Keystone Lake provides trout fishing access from May through September inclusive.; Dolores Canyon Nature Preserve preserves remnants Of Ancestral Puebloan People who lived along The Arkansas River Valley For thousands OF YEARS prior To European Settlement!!!

Fruita, Colorado is a town in Eagle County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,753 at the 2010 census. Fruita is located on the eastern edge of the San Miguel Valley between Alamosa and Arapahoe counties and along Interstate 25. Fruita was founded in 1892 by John Burt and his brother Jameson as a small community near Alamosa. It took its name from nearby Mount Fruita, which overlooked the town. In 1922, Fruita became an incorporated village under the name of Alamosa. In 1969, it reverted to its original name and ceased to be an incorporated village. The first post office in Fruita was established on April 15, 1892. The present post office building was built in 1912. The town grew rapidly after World War II when many farmers moved here to work in new production plants started up around the region due to increased demand for oil and gas resources during that time period. The population of Fruita peaked at 2,824 in 1990 but has slowly declined since then because of various reasons such as loss of jobs due to industry consolidation or relocation elsewhere; however, there are still remnants of fruit farming throughout much of downtown both commercial/residential areas and along I-25 where people grow produce year-round for local consumption or sale statewide
