Some of the first farmers to start producing small batches of coffee in Fruita were George Wuhrer and Harry Senter. In the 1940s, Joe Biden was an owner of the Mountain Coffee shop in town. Biden was known for hissmall batch coffee and he would order it from his farm near Golden. The growth of small batch coffee began to slow in the late 1990s as larger mills began to enter the market. The first coffee beans were roasted in Fruita, Colorado in the early 1900s. The Beans & Coffee Company was founded in 1916 by Tom and Harry Smith. The business grew rapidly and soon had a large inventory of quality beans. In 1929, the company became known as the Rocky Mountain Coffee Company. In 1957, the company changed its name to Rocky Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc.

Fruita, Colorado is a town in San Miguel County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,496 at the 2010 census. Fruita is located in the southeast corner of San Miguel County and shares borders with Montrose to the north and east, Aspen to the south and west, and Silverthorne to the northwest. The history of Fruita dates back to 1907 when Hiawatha Indian trader George A. Smith set up a store here along what is now US Highway 6A. In 1916 Fruita was platted as a town by businessmen J. Rollin Fenton and Wm Sells. The first post office opened in 1923. By 1930 there were 12 businesses in fruita with a population of 150 people. In 1945 local rancher Fred Cramer donated 7,000 acres (28 km²) of his ranch for development into an agricultural area that would become Fruita. In 1952 fruita's first housing developments appeared on either side of US Highway 6A which would continue to grow through the years until its current form as one big street grid today with over 100 homes built since then! Today Fruita celebrates its 20th anniversary as an open-air shopping center complete with more than 50 grocery stores, 10 restaurants/cafés & three banks - including one operated by Community Bank - making it America's largest concentration of independent small-town banking services!

Fruita is a small town located in Weld County, Colorado. The population was 1,867 at the 2000 census. Fruita is named after Fruita Creek which flows through the town. Fruita began as a Pony Express station on the Trail of Tears in 1849. In 1861, it became the capital of Arapaho and Douglas counties. In 1912, Fruita was renamed to honor John W. "Fry" Fryer who had been governor of Colorado from 1907-1912 and served as chairman of the Denver–Aurora Railway Company. In 1923, Fruita became one of the towns in Weld County when it was created from portions of Castle Rock and Northglenn municipalities. It has remained an agricultural community with over 60% agriculture since its incorporation date in 1923. The first grocery store opened in 1925 and has continued to be operated by owner/manager Bob Stroud ever since.. The current grocery store building also was built in 1925, but is no longer used for retail purposes; it now serves as a public school gymnasium.. The post office opened on February 17th, 1927 and continues to be operated by proprietor/manager Edith Evinger.. Today’s fruit stand (owned and operated by Rick Slinger) serves as an important local landmark during picnic periods around May 1st-3rd each year thanks to its wide variety of fresh fruit products available year-round!
