The Colorado Air National Guard's 432d Airlift Wing was activated in 1957 and has been providing airlift service to Golden, Colorado since then. The wing is commanded by the 1st Lt. General James E. "Jim" McNeely III who has served as its commander for twenty-six years. In that time, the 432d has transported over two million passengers and cargo through its four airports in Central Colorado and Northern Mexico. In 1985, the 432d became a Global War on Terrorism deployment when it deployed with the 504th Fighter Wing to support Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. The unit flew combat missions from Incirlik Air Base, Turkey from October 2001-February 2002 and later also flew operations from Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan fromMarch 2002-April 2003. After their deployments were completed, the aircraft returned to Denver where they were stored until being leased back toColorado in November 2006. The 1st Lt. General James E. "Jim" McNeely III assumed command of the 432d Airlift Wing at Dyess AFB on September 10th, 2007 after his predecessor resigned due to personal reasons unrelated to military service 2 days earlier; he had been Commanding Officer of Headquarters Squadron (HQ squadron) - 363rd Airlift Group at Dyess AFB since January 6th 2006 when it was redesignated Headquarters 433d Airlift Wing (HW). On October 3rd 2007 HQ433D was reassigned from Dyess AFB to Buckley AFB Kentucky upon activation of 173dAir Mobility District (IAD) which was responsible for all USAF airlift activity within Continental United States airspace; HQ433D continued operation out of Buckley AFB untilactivated on December 15th 2009 effective pursuant to Commander Directive 41002(C) On July 12th 1944 Germany initiated World War II by invading Austria with an overwhelming force while Austrian President Dollfuss refused an armistice offer made by US President Franklin D Roosevelt because he saw it as an attempt by Germany to take control of Austria proper; this led directly into World War II when Nazi Germany invaded Austria without any Allied backers or warnings leading directly into World War II During WWII RAF Bomber Command operated strategic bombing campaigns against German factories located in Essen using Avro Lancaster bombers operating under No 8 Group RAF based at RAF Coningsby in England Mainly during 1941–1944 these raids caused significant damage including King’s Cross Station which went up in flames following a Lancaster bomb attack see photo p 9/11 – Hamburg’s destroyed Stuttgart Railway Station Just five months prior however this raid took place two miles away at Golleswalde near Bingen am Rheinsee main railway junction therefore ground staffwere able to stop all trains coming into city center resulting in some inconvenience for citizens but no loss of life or property

In 1948, the USAF deployed an air gift to the Soviet Union in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their Victory over Japan. The gift was a propeller-driven glider adorned with an American flag and a Soviet Union ensign.
Golden is a town in plains district of Colorado, United States. The population was 7,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pueblo County Metropolitan Statistical Area. Golden has been a rural village for over 100 years and is known for its livestock, fruit trees, and local breweries. Golden History began on October 12th 1868 when two men named John Crouch and George Stephenson met while working on a wagon train from Kansas City to Denver. They hit it off immediately and decided to start their own business together - Golden Bros Brewery. The first keg of beer was brewed in 1869 by George Stephenson at his fathers home on Indian Creek Road in present day Golden. Golden also produced milk products until 1931 when they switched to pasteurized milk production The early years were very difficult due to lack of resources but with perseverance, hard work and support from family and friends, the brewery prospered through Prohibition (1933-1937) and World War II (1939-1945). In 1969, ownership passed from George Stephenson's wife Jeannine to her son Bruce who ran the business until his death in 2002 . After Bruce's death many changes took place including the merger of three other small breweries into one larger company which continues today as Soggy Bottom Brewery . Many talented individuals have played an important role within this company such as Chuckanut Anheuser-Busch Beer Company President John Hickenlooper who served as CEO from 2002-2010; Head Brewer Todd English who has worked here since 2003; VP Sales Jeff Heiman who joined us in 2013; AssistantBrewer/Controller Cody Smith; Food Processors Specialist Stacey Burger; AsstVP Marketing & Public Relations Casey Starr ; Facility Manager Rick Kline ; Sales Representative Georgette Ferraro ; Regional Director Dan Patrick ..…the list goes on! Today we continue our legacy with our current President & CEO Doug Weyl….. The history of Golden runs deep with some interesting stories that can be found throughout the community such as: In 1903 when gold was discovered near what is now downtown Golden, prospectors set up camp around what is now called Prospector's Rest Hill just east of main square where they built their homes atop huge piles of coal dust that still remain today. This led to development around Prospector's Rest Hill which included buildings like The Women’s Home Missionary Society Building erected between 1901- 1902 which still stands today next door to what is now called Depot Square (); Judge Joseph Patterson’s Saloon built in 1909 (); Mr. Griggs’ Cigar Store erected between 1909- 1912 (); Mrs. Granger’s Ladies Aid Association Building erected between 1912- 1914 (); First Presbyterian Church (First Congregational) constructed between 1913- 1916 (); Masonic Temple constructed between 1916- 1918 (). Later growth occurred around Main Street with businesses like The Citizens Bank building erected 1930 (), The Empire Builder restaurant built 1936 (), Masonic Lodge No 1 constructed 1938 (), Welch Hardware Store built 1939 () started by Don Welch () later bought by Midland Hardware Co., Inc., starting out as A&W Restaurant before becoming Golden Nugget Sportsbar & Grill catering primarily to sports fans (). Some more famous golden landmarks include: Golden Nugget Sportsbar & Grill (opened 1977), Midland Hardware Co., Inc.'s original store located at 4777 Main Street 1959 (), First Presbyterian Church (First Congregational) relocated across from Midland HardwareCo.,Inc 1975 () currently used as office space by Pueblo West Schools 2001 (), Chuckanut Anheuser Busch Beer Company Headquarters opened inside former Waco Taco Bell restaurant 2006 ().
The town of Golden, Colorado was founded in 1876 by a group of settlers from Illinois. The town quickly grew and soon became an important commercial and transportation center for the area. In 1907, the city of Golden merged with the neighboring towns of Pueblo and La Junta to form the city of La Junta.
