The Colorado Air National Guard has been providing air support for the United States since 1941. The first squadron was established in Golden, Colorado on May 15th, 1942. The Air National Guard continues to serve its citizens and country by providing air superiority and homeland defense. In 1992, the Colorado Air National Guards Academy opened in Golden with a mission to educate future members of the military about our armed forces and their history. Since its establishment as an air force unit, CAG has proudly served the people of Colorado Springs, Aspen, Thornton, Vail and Denver. We have worked hard to maintain our high standards of excellence while being an asset to our community. Our units have participated in many activities such asOperation Desert Storm (1991-1992), Operation Just Cause (1993-1994), Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-2004) and Hurricane Katrina (2005). With over 3800 personnel spread throughout 26 Wing at 27 locations across the state of Colorado Springs alone we are proud to provide quality service that helps make America great again!

Golden, Colorado is a small town located in southern Colorado. The population was 1,000 at the 2000 census and grew to 2,500 by 2010. The town is home to the Golden Zoo and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The first people to live in what is now Golden were nomadic Puebloans who traveled through the area for trade with other tribes. They built their first shelter here in 1877. In 1896, when the Denver & Rio Grande Railway was built through this area, gold was discovered nearby and began selling for $20 an ounce ($1,200 today). With so much gold being found, many prospectors came to Golden to find it. By 1907, over 60% of all ore mined in Southern Colorado was from Golden alone! In 1912, General George Armstrong Custer died while on his way southward with his regiment during the Mexican-American War. This event had a significant impact on the community as many residents lost hope that they would ever see general Custer again. However, within 5 years of his death local businessmen had organized a mining company and started mining for silver (which would become more important later). With more people coming into town and new businesses starting up Shedd’s grocery store in 1929 became one of the largest mercantile institutions west of St Louis (it still operates today). In 1935 construction began on what would become one of history’s most famous landmarks – The golden gate bridge which opened to traffic on July 17th of that year! As production increased throughout World War II (the war brought enormous amounts of wealth into towns like Golden), jobs left town and families packed onto buses heading northward for work each day. After hostilities ended in 1945 things slowly returned to normal as people competed for available jobs back east or abroad. A few stores closed down but overall things remained fairly stable until 1967 when a oil well went undetected until it finally exploded killing 25 people including 6 children playing gloveball near town limits! This led to drastic changes for locals as most businesses closed down but some survived intact such as Shedd’s Grocery which reopened shortly after with less competition! A gas well also went undetected for some time until 1984 when it finally exploded causing widespread damage across everything from homes to schools! Reconstruction began immediately which included building new roads and bridges; however this lasted only until 1993 when another oil well went undetected until it detonated creating even more destruction! More than $100 million dollars was spent repairing/rebuilding everything within 5 years… something that we can only imagine if it hadn’t beenfor 9/11!!! Today there are approximately 2200 residents living in Golden including 300 kids attending school.. Despite these challenges many continue making their tiny little community one that thrives despite all odds!!!

This paper will discuss the history of airforce gift giving and what it means to the USAF community. The USAF was founded on August 29, 1947 as the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE). It was originally meant to provide military support for NATO forces in Europe while the Allies fought against Nazi Germany and its allies. The USAF’s first gift was a Boeing 707 training plane. The RAF gave the plane to the USAF for use in flight training exercises over England. From this point on, air force gifts were common and often representative of different branches of service within the USAF community. One of the most famous air force gift traditions isOperation Santa Claus. Starting in 1951, when troops deployed to South Korea were needed for Operation Christmas Tree, pilots from member nations donated items such as clothes, boots, radios and other military equipment to help bring holiday cheer back home during difficult times. Since then, every year LtGen Hap Arnold takes part in Operation Santa Claus by flying an aircraft full of presents from Japan to Guam where they are delivered directly to families who may be living through hard times due to war or natural disasters.
