The Colorado Army National Guard has a rich history dating back to the late 1800s. The unit was first organized on November 7, 1892, in Golden, Colorado. In 1924, the Guard was divided into two battalions and redesignated as the 16th Infantry Regiment. On January 1, 1930, the regiment became a brigade and was re-designated as the 3rd Brigade Combat Team (Light Infantry). On September 25, 2009, brigade combat teams were disbanded and all infantry regiments were re-organized into brigades. The entire CO ANG is now composed of three brigades - 2d Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 3d Brigade Combat Team (Infantry), and 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) - with an additional battalion assigned to each brigade combat team for joint operations. This was followed by awards such as Silver Star Medals and Purple Hearts given out throughout the war to servicemen who displayed extraordinary heroism. These awards helped solidify army gift traditions as well as provide soldiers with morale boosting acknowledgements. Golden, Colorado is a small town in the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. The town is located in Routt County, Colorado, on the edge of an agricultural area that includes some of the most significant gold deposits in North America. Golden has been a major center for mining and ranching activity since its founding in 1869. Today, Golden is a vibrant small town with strong community ties and a rich history dating back to when it was first settled. The earliest settlers to what is now Golden were farmers who came East from Kansas in 1869. They started out near Pueblo (now Albuquerque) and homesteaded land east of Butte Creek which flowed into Clear Creek River. These pioneers were led by Captain James Hutton who had come overland from Canada with his family in 1868. He organized a team of men and started prospecting for gold along Clear Creek and Butte Creek between Pueblo and Alamosa (now Alamosa). Some people also got lost trying to find their way around these hills so they named this area "Hutton's Hills". By 1872, about 50 families had arrived here including 20 men under captain Hutton himself. By 1880, there were over 100 families living here with 160 acres surveyed for mining claims as well as other holdings such as cattle ranching, farming, lumber production and mineral rights around Butte Creek Reservoirs 1-3 miles north of present day Golden. This period saw many changes due to advances in technology that made it possible to achieve greater yields from gold content in ore than ever before - including cyanide processes that took advantage of new water supplies found near Aspen Mountain Resort just outside Denver proper! In 1886-87 an effort was made by local officials to make golden an important transportation stop on US Highway 66 between Denver and Aspen Junction where travelers could buy goods available only at those two locations oranges 10 miles southwest of modern day Golden on Cherry Canyon Road known then as State Route 66A! So successful was this endeavor that within three years highway construction had extended US 66 6 miles south from its original terminus at Aspen Junction making golden one of its more direct points eastward! In 1896–97 another attempt was made by state officials to turn golden into an important railroad junction but again it failed because there wasn't enough traffic coming down Sixmile Canyon Road from Fort Collins towards Aspen Junction! Finally on October 9th 1897 A bill was introduced into the Colorado General Assembly creating Routt County which would include all but part of what is now Routt County - giving us our current name! Goldmining continued until World War II when prices went up so much that large amounts became unavailable for sale either commercially or through underground levels discovered nearby like Telluride Mines doing business as Chalcogony Mines Company until 1972 when they closed down due to environmental problems caused by human activities!. However surface exploration continued until 1965 when allophers began showing good areas worthy of exploitation; however no commercial operations resulted because silver deposition rates exceeded 3% per year against world average!!! Following World War II wholeheartedly man has attempted every conceivable means possibleto increase production via hydraulic fracturing etc., however without success...until recently!!!!! Development began gradually following oil depletion during 1970s & 1980s especially outside urban areas where people believed easy money would be forthcoming; however development patterns have generally followed older patterns associated with resource extraction industries..........
