The Coast Guard was first established in 1915 as the US Department of Commerce’s Marine Inspection Service. The service grew rapidly and, in 1938, was elevated to the status of a separate department, the United States Coast Guard. Golden is a town in San Miguel County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,903 at the 2010 census. It has been incorporated since 1912. Golden is located on the southern edge of the San Miguel Mountains and is within the Rocky Mountains National Park. The first settlers in what is now Golden were French Canadians who founded a fur trading post in 1827. The post was destroyed by Indian raiders in 1829 and again in 1833 but re-founded two years later with a new owners. In 1836, John C. Fremont discovered gold near present-day Golden while exploring the Rocky Mountains for California Gold Rush prospectors. The discovery led to rapid growth of the town and its accompanying population; by 1860, it had reached 2,500 people. By 1870, gold had stopped being found at all around Colorado so miners turned their attention to nearby Butte County for more ore until it was finally Extrasolar Mining Company's (EOMC) turn to find gold about three miles east of present-day Golden during their 1902 strike that yielded $2 million in profits ($102 million today). When World War I began, most of northern Colorado was off limits to military service because of neutrality laws enacted during the Civil War; however, sections of northeastern San Miguel County were included as part of District No. 6 which became available after General Grant’s army marched into Denver on November 25th 1863 as part of his Overland Campaign against Mexican forces at El Paso and Churruca Hills areas north of Denver In 1916 incorporation took place following passage by voters thereofof an ordinance providing for municipal government under A compromise between Republican factions leading up to statehood referendum held on November 3rd 1912 resulting in a yes vote with 1/3 turnout due largely to personal political entanglements among then-mayor Blythe Ladd It should be noted that although effective from early 1912 until 1915 when mayoral term expired – including 3½ years prior thereto – Mayor Ladd resigned effective date due both personal reasons (failed marriage) and conflict with newly elected Board members over power struggles within city hall where patronageavailled heavily On January 4th 1915 replacement mayor Jerald Muhlenkamp agreed to serve out unexpired term concurrent with Ladd’s inauguration effective February 1st pending Statehood Referendum results which showed majority yes vote extending municipality rightward boundary through downtown annexation process thereby creating much needed revenue stream essential for finance operations even though property values continued decline well into 1920s
