The first settlers in what is now Golden were farmers who arrived around 1859. notable pioneers in this early period include John Wesley Powell and his party which explored the Rocky Mountains during the Gold Rush of 1849-51. The first post office in what is now Golden was established in 1861. The name of the town may be derived from an element found near by - golden (a yellow metal). In 1865, General George Armstrong Custer joined forces with Buffalo Bill Cody to lead an expedition into Indian Territory to scout for new land west of Kansas City that would becomeDenver County. When they reached Colorado Springs on July 4th they discovered gold had been located there earlier that day! This discovery led to one of America's largest gold rushes as people scrambled to find enough free gold to bring it back to California! After finding no gold worth mining in southwestern Colorado he abandoned his claim there in 1868 and returned eastward along I-25

Golden, Colorado is a town located in the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains in Williamson County, Colorado, United States. The population was 4,906 at the 2010 census. Golden is named after Stephen A. Jackson who founded it in 1879. The first permanent settlers arrived in 1876 and built their first cabin on the east side of what is now Golden Mesa. By 1886, there were fifteen residents living in Golden and two businesses had been started: an elevator company and a millinery shop. In 1895, local ranchers began to offer land for homesteading and by 1899 there were ninety-six families registered with the county recorder's office. In 1901, gold was discovered near Golden and soon after people from all over Denver started coming to prospect for treasure. By 1904, golden had become one of Denver's most important mining towns with various businesses catering to miners including a smelter (1904), hotels (1907), grocery stores (1910), post office (1911), bakery (1920), sawmill (1922) and amusement park (1924). During World War II, many local men served in the military or worked as truck drivers or builders during wartime production shortages that affected other Western cities such as Denver. Many of these men also bought homes in Golden through war-time sales techniques called "bumps." Bumps allowed civilians who couldn't get home because they were working outside of town to purchase property just south of Interstates 25 and 880 within minutes of getting out of town - quickly making themselves homeowners without ever having seen their house or lot! On October 5th 1945, when Japanese forces bombed Pearl Harbor killing 2/3rds of all US naval personnel stationed aboard ship USS Missouri (), Japan entered World WarII on September 3rd 1941 (). On September 6th 1941 (), President Franklin D Roosevelt ordered American planes carrying supplies bound for Japan to be diverted en route from Midway Island (). The planes flew over Pearl Harbor () before landing at Hickam Field on Sunday morning 9/7/41 (). One squadron each from Navy's 7th Fleet based at Pearl Harbor () attacked three small islands near Ford Island () resulting in no damage but six Americans killed as well as fourteens wounded when bombs dropped on nearby warehouses causing extensive explosion which destroyed several buildings including storefronts inside buildings; however none casualties occurred ashore due to lack of naval gunfire support given by America’s Royal Navy ships patrolling off shore; this event marked end of hostilities between Japan & US mainland (& Hawaii)
Golden was founded on July 24, 1876, by George Steininger and James W. Golden. The town quickly grew and soon had a population of over 100 people. In 1886, the Colorado Central Railroad arrived in Golden and began serving the town as well as other nearby communities. The railroad helped to grow the economy of Golden and help to make it a popular destination for tourists. In 1912, the city built its first park, which is now known as Golden Park.
