They originally roasted only beans from Guatemala and Honduras, but over time they began to import more expensive beans from different parts of the world. Coffee was introduced to Europe by the Arabs in the late 1400s. In 1555, coffee was brought overland from Africa by Juan Ortiz Cabrillo and Columbus. In 1611, Nicholas-Jacques Conte imported Arabica coffee from Ethiopia for French colonists at Jamestown in Virginia. In 1795, Dutch colonists founded Roemelsche Koffiefabriek (RKF) on Staten Island in New York City and began roasting coffee beans for export. The first espresso machine was built by Angelo Parisi at RKF in 1898. The introduction of air-purifying machines made it possible to produce high quality espresso with a longer roast time which gave people more opportunity to enjoy their cup of Joe while living near major population centers like New York City or Milan. By 1945, every town in Italy had its own coffee house where people could purchase their favorite blends of coffee and savor them under the sun or starry sky. Golden Colorado is a small town located in the eastern Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The current population of Golden was counted in 2009, and it has since decreased by about 10%. Prior to the mid 1800s, it was an unincorporated community. In 1876, gold was discovered near Golden and the town began to grow. A post office opened in 1877, and soon there were businesses such as a bakery, livery stable, grocery store, jail, and physician. The first school was built in 1886 and the first paved road went through Golden in 1912. Today all that remains of early Golden are some old buildings downhill from the courthouse square which still serve as a local market place for goods bought by locals or tourists alike. The history of Golden begins with several pioneers who decided to settle there because they thought it would be a good place to found their own business ventures because there wasn’t much else available at that time within miles of where they lived. By 1876 when gold first started being found around town people had already erected homes and businesses including a bakery (opened by John Nolen), livery stable (owned by George Hildebrandt), grocery store (owned by James Wertheimer), jail (owned by Jens Jensen), doctor (Dr Samuel Weir) and post office. By 1912 when the first roads arrived many residents had moved away although some remained until after World War II when most everyone either left for other parts of Colorado or moved away altogether due to changing social mores during that timespan. Today only two structures remain from early golden days including the courthouse square where citizens gathered for meetings or parades on occasion as well as one house on East High Street which may have been used as a hotel before being abandoned again over time according to recent research done on this subject along with other small communities throughout western Colorado caught up in various waves of change during those decades like Aspen proper prior to its incorporation into Denver County in 1902) .
