The Colorado Air National Guard's 6th Air Division is one of the most decorated wings in the United States military. The division has earned dozens of awards, including six Joint Service Commendations and 10 Distinguished Unit Citations (DUCs). The wing was first activated on December 12, 1941 as the Colorado Volunteer Fighter Wing. It was redesignated as the 6th Air Division on October 1, 1946 and activated again on February 15, 1947 as a permanent unit within then-Air Defense Command. The division was re-designated as the 5thAir Division on January 1, 1959 and again received its current name on November 2, 1961 when it became part of Tactical Air Command. On July 17, 1970 Grand Junction founded its own air force with an officer cadet squadron consisting of P-39E Warhawks and C-47 Skytrain aircraft. On September 7 Grand Junction joined Plattsburgh AFB in New York City in support of Operation Rolling Thunder II which aimed to conduct Operation Neptune's Spear against North Vietnam. In 1984 Grand Junction established an air defense radar battalion which would later become part of Peterson AFB's 4 th Missile Wing. In 1992 Grand Junction set up a detachment to provide security for Denver International Airport during Operations Desert Storm and Operation Southern Watch. Grand Junction also supported several other USAF aerial campaigns throughout the late 1990s such asOperation Northern WATCH I & II;Operation Enduring Freedom;Operation Iraqi Freedom;Operation Noble Eagle III & IV;andthe Global War on Terrorism coalition airstrikes campaign called Unified Protector which included both operations within NORAD airspace plus overflights into Mexican airspace from US airspace consistent with Title 10 US Code Section 923(a) - "unsafe flying above Mexico."

Grand Junction, Colorado is a small town located in the Western United States. The population was 3,690 as of the 2010 census. Grand Junction is a popular tourist destination for its natural beauty and history. The community has been home to many businesses and organizations over the years, including the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Grand Junction Historical Society, and the local radio station KGJZ-FM. The first people to live in what is now Grand Junction were Native Americans who hunted game in what is now downtown. In 1867, three men named George Meeker, John Wesley Powell, and James Hutton founded a business called "Nugget Mining Company" which mined silver at Powder River Basin near present day Pueblo. The company failed within two years and all three men lost their money. However, they met again soon afterward when George Meeker became general manager of an irrigation canal project being developed by James Hutton that ran through downtown Grand Junction. As part of this project, Hutton hired Meeker to survey the area for land suitable for farming. After surveying several thousand acres around downtown Grand Junction he recommended that some of this land be turned into a town site on account of its strategic location midway between Denver and Boulder counties on both sides of I-25 corridor connecting those two cites with each other and with Mexico City across the Rio Grande river (thus providing easy access to silver mines in that region). The first settler in what is now downtownGrandjunction was William Waddell who purchased 640 acres from Uriah Hecox in 1877 (Hecox had also paid Waddell $10 per acre). Waddell built his house on today's Main Street just east of First Avenue. In 1886 Charles Goodyear leased 120 acres from Uriah Hecox along with 1000 more acres from John Wesley Powell for $4000 (Goodyear later sold these lands plus 600 more acres to JW Marriott). Goodyear began production onoraat Silver Glen Mine where he produced lead ore until 1902 when it closed due to low reserves (-100% since 1903) but left behind a legacy which continues today -named after him are goodyear mineral wells located just south of town off US 287), one mile east of Main Street off exit 99A concurrent with Interstate 25

The citation reads: "Chuck Yeager is perhaps best known as one of America’s most distinguished aerospace engineers." He also received numerous other honors throughout his career including being named Commander-in-Chief American Aerospace Defence Command (AADC), Air Force Chiefof Staff (AFPG), Air Forces Chief Test Pilot (AFTPT), Director Space Flight Research Center (STRC), Colonel Commander USAF Medical Research Laboratory (USAMRL), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Representative at NATO mission on Airlift Management Directorate Headquarters Sector Knoxville/Pittsburgh Regional Airport).

The town of Grand Junction was established on a tract of land east of what is now Interstate 25. By 1880, Grand Junction had a population of about 350 people. The main industry in early Grand Junction was agriculture, but by 1910 there were three factories in the town. One factory made radios, one manufactured automobiles, and another made clocks. In 1915, the first post office was opened in Grand Junction. In 1939, the United States Post Office moved from Commerce City to Grand Junction because of overcrowding at Commerce City. The first irrigation canal was built inGrand Mesa County in 1902-03; it became known as the "Grand Valley Canal." In 1923-24, an amusement park called Keystone Park was built near what is now Colorado State University. It closed in 1925 after only six months due to financial problems.
