Grand Junction, CO (81620) is a city in Mesa County, Colorado, United States. The population was 46,471 at the 2010 census. Grand Junction is home to the Rocky Mountains and is one of five municipalities in the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded on July 1, 1869 by James W. Pemberton and his family as a town named "Granite City." The name change came about because of an influx of European immigrants who had arrived in search of religious freedom and gold nuggets during the late 1860s and early 1870s. The first Post Office opened in 1870 with Pemberton as its first namesake. By 1880, Granite City had grown to include a school, two churches (one Congregationalist), a hotel, several stores, and 300 residents. In 1886–87 voters approved a $10 million bond issue to build what would become Colorado State University (CSU). Construction began on CSU's main campus in 1889 but completed just one year later due to financial problems caused by the Panic of 1893. In 1903 Granite City became the site of what would be America's first electric power plant when the San Miguel Power Company erected an electrical generating station on land that now includes Grand Junction Municipal Airport. The plant produced electricity for local consumers until 1942 when it was replaced by modern energy sources thanks to federal legislation called "New Deal" which aimed to improve economic conditions throughout the country

In 1803, Rhode Island became a state and the National Guard was regrouped there. In 1828, Connecticut organized its own National Guard and the Massachusetts National Guard followed suit in 1829. The New Mexico Territory also had its own National Guard from 1839-1845. In 1861, when the Confederate States of America was formed, many soldiers from New York City joined the Confederacy. This led to an issue with the New York State Militia being allowed to keep their weapons while their counterparts from Massachusetts were not given this privilege. After Reconstruction ended in 1865, most states reorganized their militias but the national guard remained unchanged until 1903 when it was renamed as the Army Reserve Corps (ARC). The original mission of ARC was to provide training for volunteer officers for service in wartime but it later evolved into including both active duty and reserve components as needed or desired.
Grand Junction, Colorado is a small city located in Mesa County, Colorado, United States. The population was 8,587 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Mesa County and home to the University of Northern Colorado. Grand Junction is also home to two casinos: The Rio Grande Casino and Race Course and the Grand Prix Raceway. The first inhabitants in what is now Grand Junction were Native American people who lived near the confluence of the San Juan River and Arkansas River. Europeans came to this area in 1821 when James Hutton arrived on horseback from Salt Lake City with his mission to explore North America. He named what he saw "Grand Junction" because it looked like a junction of several rivers. In 1824, Washington Territory was created from part of Arizona Territory and included much of present-day Mesa County. The territorial government established an adobe town at what is today called Boulder Valley in southeast Grand Junction for trade with nearby mines and cowboys grazing their horses on newly acquired land east of Aspen Creek irrigation canals. In 1861, when Utah became a state, Mesa County was transferred to Utah Territory along with other counties including Pitkin, Eagle, Carbonate (laterDouglas), San Miguel (later Alamosa), Nederland (later Durango), La Plata (later Cochran) and Gunnison (later Montrose). As part of efforts by Territorial Governor John Evans to consolidate local government under one roof, Boulder Valley was made the county seat in 1865. At that time it had a population of just 605 residents; by 1890 it had grown to over 12,000 residents due largely to growth in mining activity around Boulder Valley as well as ranching within Mesa County itself. During World War II much effort went into creating a munitions plant at Pueblo but production stopped after only 10 months due to wartime rationing which affected all sectors of society equally; however some munitions produced still remain today at various sites throughout the Western US thanks bothto post-war re-use for civilian purposes as well as military stockpiles that have been gradually depleted over time! Mesa County has always been home to many different industries; starting out with agriculture there are now positions available in all types of manufacturing including health care products such as diapers and contact lens solutions while steel mills have closed down over time leaving behind vast repositories filled with rust which can be seen anytime you walk outside!
