Greenwood is a census-designated place in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,757 at the 2010 census. Greenwood is located along Interstate 25 and U.S. Route 6 east of Greeley. It is part of the Greeley–Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Greenwood was Wm Hahn in 1871. In 1886, the village of Greenwood was organized as a town under the name Arapaho Heights. On July 15, 1907, Arapaho Heights merged with Greenwood to form one municipality; this merger remained in effect until 1912 when both towns were again split into their individual constituent parts under state jurisdiction due to a territorial dispute over Arapaho Heights land surrounding Telluride Reservoirs In 1969, Greenwood became home to the world's first municipal "streetcar" system which ran on streets parallel to I-25 providing transportation between downtown Greeley and various businesses and residences along its route

Greenwood, Colorado is a small town located in the Eagle River Valley of southeastern Weld County, Colorado. It was founded in 1868 by George Greenwood and his family. The Greenwood’s first home was on the current site of the town square. The original post office was built near what is now the library. In 1886, Greenwood had a population of 350 people and was incorporated as a village. In 1914, it had a population of 1,500 people and became an unincorporated community again. The population dropped to 700 in 2000 but has since increased modestly to approximately 1,300 people as of 2019. Despite its small size, Greenwood has experienced significant development over time. The city center has been reconstructed multiple times since it was destroyed by fire in 1916. The most recent renovation took place in 2006 and added new sidewalks, street lights, and public works facilities such as a water filtration plant and trash removal service. For many years there were no schools within walking distance of the city center so citizens traveled to nearby towns for education opportunities until eventually Gunnison opened its own high school in 1965 outside the city limits (although still part of the Gunnison Unified School District). Today there are three elementary schools (Red Hills Elementary; Northside Elementary; Southridge Middle/High) along with two high Schools: East High School (grades 9-12) and West High School (grades 11-12). There are also several junior colleges located within easy reach including CSU Montrose’s Rocky Mountain Campus which offers courses specific to forestry or mining industry jobs; Northern Colorado University which offers certificates/degrees in various fields including business administration or engineering; Irene Military Academy which offers preparatory programs for military members serving overseas or those who have served honorably at home; Southern Methodist University’s SMU Park Campus which offers undergraduate degrees in agriculture, environmental science & engineering, health sciences & nursing; Denver Tech Center - formerly COVIDI - an online learning institution focused on technology careers such as software engineering or web design that provides access to some 8th grade classes every day from 7am to 10pm through remote learning services offered by Amazon Web Services
