Greenwood is a town in Adams County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. Greenwood is one of the numerous towns and villages that make up the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area. The first people to live in Greenwood were Native Americans who hunted deer and other animals near what is now Interstate 25. They built their own homes out of logs and brush until they started using stone tools about 10 acres east of present-day Greenwood Village. A post office was established in 1878, and by 1886 the community had a school, church, store, doctor's office, and hotel. The railroad arrived in 1892 and stimulated growth as businesses opened up around it such as groceries stores and dry goods stores. By 1907 there were five churches in Greenwood with over 3,000 residents. The economy changed when oil started to be produced nearby along I-25; production increased prostitution which led to less job opportunities for menfolk and more work for womenfolk making local income from cleaning houses or working on farms during harvest time. In 1915 major changes took place when the federal government passed the National Defense Act which authorized purchases of land for military training purposes within certain limits including Greenwood village Limits which created an undeveloped area known as Camp Robinson site outside of town limits where soldiers could practice firing rifles without fear of being shot themselves while practicing self-defense tactics against Indians or bandits who might attack them while on camp duties or traveling through the area (this would become famous as Goldwater Gulch). This Unincorporated Area played an important role in World War II by providing materials needed by both American forces fighting abroad (steel tanks etc.) as well as troops stationed at home (lumber) Local farmers also helped support war efforts with food production becoming increasingly important due to shortages experienced overseas especially after railroads were taken away from our country during WWII like many others exemptions given earlier like Canals etc.). In 1946 Camp Robinson site was closed down due to lack of use however recent development has allowed access once again making it one of Greenwood's most popular tourist attractions today!
