The Lafayette, Colorado Army deployed gift history began in 1947. The town of Lafayette was the home of Fort Lyon before it was moved to its current location in 1924. It was during this time that the Department of Defense purchased 8 acres of land for $1,000 and began construction on what would become Fort Lyon. The firstUnit arrived in 1947 and served as an artillery battery along with the 1st Infantry Regiment stationed at Ft. Logan until 1951 when they were transferred to Ft. Collins, Colorado where they would remain until 1959 when they were reassigned back to Lafayette as part of Operation Neptune’s Spear. Since then, Ft. Lyon has been host to many different units including the 9th Infantry Regiment which is currently stationed here; 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry which is also headquartered here; 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment which arrived in 1978 and is currently based out of Canyon Junction; 4th Squadron, 10th Cavalry which is also headquartered here; and Headquarters Company (HC), 669th Automatic Rifle Battalion (ARB) which arrived in 2013 from Pueblo West Texas Air National Guard Base In addition to all of this activity there have been numerous gifts given through events such as military appreciation days or various holiday celebrations throughout the years. Through all these events and interactions between troops stationed at Ft. Lyon we can see a lasting legacy that helps connect present day soldiers with those who fought during previous wars while preserving some unique memories from before then too!

Lafayette is a town in Logan County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Junction Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1879 by John Fenton and his wife Marie Magdalene Lafayette as a dry goods store and post office on the east side of the Animas River. The name Lafayette comes from Lafayette Academy (now part of Grand Junction) which opened in 1855 and was one of several schools started by Fenton. In 1902, the school became an all-girls grammar school named after Jeanne d'Arc, France's Joan of Arc who had fought for France against Spain during the Hundred Years War. In 1906, Lafayette incorporated as a village under the jurisdiction of Logan County. On March 9, 1908, it became a city with a population of 511 people when it annexed adjacent unincorporated land to its south and west. In 1912–13, Lafayette built its first water tower which still stands today on Main Street near where Interstate 25 meets US 26. That same year also saw construction begins on what would become Lambert Park Golf Course; it opened in 1916 and remains one of Grande Mesa's most popular courses today.
