Lafayette is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 709 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pueblo–Junction City, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lafayette began as a post office on July 1, 1879. The town was named for General Lafayette (1753-1832), who fought in the French and Indian War and later served as commander of U.S. Army forces in Mexico during the Mexican-American War. Lafayette has two churches: First Baptist Church and Jehovah's Witnesses Bible Society chapel. There are also several businesses including an ice cream parlor, clothing store, gas station/convenience store, and grocery store. The community also has a library which opened in 2002 and serves residents of Pueblo-Junction City as well as Lafayette itself.

Lafayette is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,957 at the 2010 census. It takes its name from Lafayette, France. The first settler in what is now Lafayette were two men named John and James Prentice who platted land near the present day intersection of State Highway 67 and North Avenue in 1868. A post office was established in 1870 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1925. In 1875, Wm. Fenton built a cabin on the banks of the river which he named "Fenton's Ferry". He later moved to what is now downtown Lafayette and continued to operate his ferry until 1902 when it was destroyed by a flood. In 1907, Cesar Chavez founded the Hispanic American Labor Union (HALU) here in Lafayette with intent to provide social services for Mexican Americans living here illegally or not registered with the government authorities. HALU operated as an umbrella organization that provided legal representation to immigrants working illegal jobs throughout Colorado and southern Wyoming during this time period.
Lafayette was founded by Pierre-Jean de Larose in 1777. The town had a population of about 100 people when it was incorporated in 1857. It became a county seat in 1861 and soon developed into a commercial center with prominence in the Colorado Territory. In 1876, Lafayette was annexed to the City of Denver.
