In 1998, Lafayette won a $5 million grant from the National Endowment for Democracy to help promote democracy around the world. Since then, they have made several trips to different countries and continue working with local organizations to promote civil society education and democratic values here at home and abroad

They are also well known for their charitable work, such as leading Operation Neptune’s Spear, which was responsible for liberating Kuwait from Saddam Hussein’s tyranny in 1990. The Marines have deployed to all corners of the world and have fought in wars both hot and cold. They are often called upon to provide security at home and abroad, something that they take seriously. The Marines have shown their devotion to their country by serving in every branch of service since 1775. It is truly amazing that they can maintain such a high standard while deployments occur around the clock – sometimes multiple times a day! Some marines who have served through various deployments include: Lance Corporal Randy Boggs (who was killed during Iraq War I), Sergeant First Class James Fenton (who was killed during Operation Enduring Freedom), Specialist Second Class Joshua Richard Waddell (who died during Operation Iraqi Freedom) and Chief Petty Officer 2nd class Christopher Dickey (who was killed during Operation Just Cause). There are many more who could be mentioned, but this paper will not go into detail about them all. Instead, we will focus on some of the more famous marines who have deployment history!

Today, Lafayette is still an active community with a population ofapproximately 100 people.
