Lafayette is named after General Lafayette who fought in the American Revolution and contributed to the success of that cause. However, because of its importance as a regional center during earlier stages of Boulder's development, Lafayette has been preserved as an important part of Boulder history.
Lafayette is located in the San Miguel County, Colorado area and was founded in 1824. The town was named for General Lafayette who led American forces during the Mexican-American War. The Anschutz Hotel, which still stands today, was built in 1892 in honor of Andrew Carnegie.
