Lakewood is a city in Adams County, Colorado, United States. The population was 33,546 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1875 by brothers George and Jacob Lakewood while they were on their way to Paradise Ranch from Fort Collins. They named it after their father, John Lakewood who had bought the land that would later become Lakewood. The first post office opened in 1880. In 1905, the town incorporated as a municipality with a population of 15 residents. It became a city on February 14, 1984 with a population of 507 people. In 2002, an oil pipeline ruptured near the town center causing an estimated $20 million in damage and cleanup costs which has still not been fully paid off over twenty years later. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all of it land. As of 2010, there were 33,546 people living in Lakewood according to the US Census Bureau's estimate

In 2002, the Air Force began sending gift baskets that included items like books, movies, and sportswear. These gifts are usually sent to units or bases in Europe or Asia. In 2009, the Air Force deployed a basket filled with clothing and accessories for troops stationed in Afghanistan. This time around, it was also decorated with an air force emblem on top. Since then, the Air Force has deployed baskets filled with items like books and snacks to troops stationed in Japan and South Korea. In 2013, a basket was send to NATO members Croatia and Romania in order to promote peacekeeping operations.
The RAF deploys a number of gifts over time. Here is a few recent examples: In 2006, the RAF gifted around £1 million worth of air-to-air missiles to Turkish Airlines. This was in recognition of the RAF's support for Turkey's efforts to fight against rebel forces in its War in Iraq. In 2009, the RAF deployed an Airlander helicopter to assist Chilean mining engineers during their Operation Condor adventure. The helicopter flew above and dropped supplies and equipment to the miners while they worked 6,000 miles below the surface of Chile's Atacama Desert. In 2013, the RAF donated two Chinook helicopters to Gambia as part of its efforts to improve social services there.
Lakewood, Colorado is a city in Clear Creek County, Colorado, United States. The population was 26,882 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live here were the Ute tribe. They began trading with other native tribes and settlers arrived in droves during the late 1800s looking for land to build homes on or ranching operations. In 1902, George Wickersham founded Wickersham Ranch near present-day Lakewood after purchasing 640 acres (247 ha) of land from the Utes. Wickersham named his ranch "Lakewood" in honor of his then-wife's birthplace in England. At that time it was one of only a few ranchers in Clear Creek County and he quickly became known as one of its most prosperous citizens and developer. In 1912, John Wesley Harding purchased 640 acres (247 ha) adjacent to Wickersham Ranch and named it Harding Ranch following his wife's father's name alsoJohn Wesley Harding. This area would become known as Harding Park after him and his wife Jeannette's son John Haughton Harding married Jane Eagleton in that year. By 1916 there were over 100 residents living on or around what is now Lakewood when war breaks out between America and Germany over Austria which would later lead to World War I During World War I many businesses closed due to patriotism but by 1919 there were still close to 200 residents living on or around what is now Lakewood when prohibitionist candidate Alfred Payson computing from Rocky Mountain National Laboratory won election as Governor of Colorado against incumbent Apalachia Moffatt who had served since 1914 Ascent Mining Company president James Fenton told interviewer about early days: “We never did get very rich off our gold until prohibition came along because we didn’t have any transportation coming into town so you had all these outlaws running aroundserved liquor while we were trying to make some money…So prohibition killed us off pretty good." Governor Alfred Payson appointed Colonel Edward Sibley as head inspector general for mines & mineral lands responsible for investigating mining operations statewide including those within Clear Creek County; this led to increased regulation of mining activities which created new jobs opportunities for local families while reducing demand for illicit drugs such as cocaine which caused unemployment among local workers Although Prohibition ended soon afterwards much alcohol remained available until 1933 when regulations made it illegal once again In 1951 City Council voted unanimously approval for incorporation into Denver based upon recommendation from a committee formed pursuant thereto consisting principally of Mayor Denny Reardon City Manager Jock Holmquist Electrician Art Ziegler real estate dealer Harry Newmark electrician Jay Grier attorney Seymour Weitzman doctor Humphrey Bogart hotelier Other members included dentist Harry Weinreb lawyer Myron Eisendrath insurance agent Harold Lusk bank vice president Clyde Kapp attorney
Lakewood was founded in 1892 and named for the town of Lakewood, New York. The first post office was opened in 1893. The city was incorporated on February 15, 1907. In 1912, the population of Lakewood was estimated to be over 100,000 people. In 1928, the city became a cooperative city with a board of directors made up of citizens who were also members of local banks and other organizations. On October 1, 1936, the City Council passed an ordinance creating a public works department to improve infrastructure within the city including street cleaning and park maintenance. The department was renamed the Department of Public Works on January 1, 1937. In 1951-1952, Lakewood experienced a large flood that destroyed many homes and businesses along portions of Center Street between Indian School Road and I-25W. This caused extensive damage which remains visible today as well as contributing to the nickname "The Flooded City". Additionally during this time period there were also several important civic meetings held within the city government with focus on issues such as healthcare reform and urban renewal
