The Colorado Air National Guard's 4th Fighter Wing gifted the first of their F-15C/D Eagle fighter jets to the Lakewood Police Department in 1993. The gift was a tribute to then-Chief Deputy Sheriff, Rick Hagerty, who had died in a helicopter accident just months earlier. In 1998, the wing gave the first F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet to the Denver District Attorney's Office as part of its "Gift of Good" program. The aircraft was donated by McDonnell Douglas and flown into Denver for maintenance and inspection. In 2002, the wing bestowed its 11th F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft onto Rocky Mountain Law Enforcement Academy (RMLEA) as part of RMLEA's "Gift of Honor" program. The gift was in honor of then-Director Jerry Nigro and Assistant Director Tom Gorman, both deceased members of the RMLEA Board of Directors. This is also the only time an Air National Guard squadron has bestowed an Aircraft on school.
Lakewood is a town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 4,491 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Boulder Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lakewood's ZIP code 80527 gives it the 9th most ZIP Code in the US. Lakewood was founded on November 15, 1875 by John Fetterman and Wm Halsey McGill as a small farming community named after nearby Loch Sheldrake. The name "Lakewood" first appeared on a map dated 1876. By 1890, some of the early settlers had moved to other settlements in Douglas County and renamed their communities accordingly: Lakewood, Northglenn, Thornton, Windsor Heights and Brighton Beach. The first post office in Lakewood opened on December 12, 1892. In 1899, an addition to the town center was built that included a grocery store and two frame homes; this became known as Main Street (later renamed Park Boulevard). By 1902 there were six businesses in Main Street with a population of about 60 residents; these included a tailor shop/dentist office/, blacksmith shop/cable car service station/, hardware store/, restaurant/. On January 1st 1907 local resident Denton Ladd donated land for what would become downtown Lakewood which includes many current structures such as the former high school building and municipal court building along with churches (Episcopal Church (1898), First Methodist Church (1901), Lutheran church (1907)), several residences including one now known as Lakeshore Estates () (). On October 24th 1912 whenDouglas County was created from Adams County it became part of Douglas County with its own government; however annexation requests by neighboring counties continued until 1915 when all but Aurora were annexed into Aurora creating what is now known as Aurora Township (). Downtown Lakewood remained essentially unaltered until 1948 when four blocks north of Main Street - bounded by State Road 140 east to I-25 west and west to Union Ave - upholstery stores (), gas stations (), convenience stores () were opened followed by more housing throughout 1950s through 1970s making downtown again largely unchanged until gentrification re-emerged around 2000s Inspired grassroots efforts led to renovation project starting in 2016 which aimed to restore much damage done over decades including removing lead paint from brick Architecture restoration focus also includes installation of new sidewalks , streetlights and street furniture . In 1916 local resident Willis Hirsch donated land for what would become Central High School (). Central High School served students from 1923 until 2001 when it closed due to financial problems; following its closure many students relocated out of Douglas County into other parts of Colorado or outside America where they continue to learn today at various universities . In 2006 an agreement was reached between Central High School alumni associations and veteran’s organizations whereby all former students who have graduated from central high school are invited provide contact information for any descendants living within ten miles of central high school campus so that those descendants can attend reunions commemorating student experiences during war time ; furthermorecentral high school alumni association agreed not to seek reimbursement from educational institutions providing instruction honing skills related directly thereto since veterans should not be expected reimbursement for services rendered while serving our nation's Armed Forces In 2013 central high school alumnus conducted referendum voting permitting members organized under “Central High alumnae foundation” authority unlimited attendance at reunion events without prior notice given thereby terminating any potential lawsuit currently pending against district

Lakewood is a town in Adams County, Colorado, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. The first settler in what is now Lakewood was John Wesley Powell in 1876. In 1911, the townsite of Nottingham was platted and named for then-Governor of Colorado Alfred E. Nottingham. Lakewood became a city on November 3, 1912 when it annexed the unincorporated communities of Coventry and Sheffield Heights. On October 15, 1916, both cities were placed within the newly created Adams County by an act of the State Legislature under then-Governor Howard Pyle. The post office at Lakewood served until it closed on February 14, 1959; most mail was delivered to Westminster or Denver because those two counties had more citizens thanAdams County did at that time. The last letter from Lakewood was sent on July 5, 1959; all future letters were sent to Westminster until supplanted by the new Denver Post Office on December 1, 1959. There have been several changes to the name of this town since its incorporation as a city: in 1912 it changed from "Lakewood" to "Adams County" (the name given after Boulder had been annexed into Adams County), and again in 1916 when Coventry and Sheffield Heights were added (after they were reorganized as separate townships within Adams County). Today's current spelling honors only one founder—John Wesley Powell—not all three founders who laid out what is now Lakewood: Alfred E Nottingham (1876–1911), James Aiken (1892–1964), and Lewis Hinebaugh (1875–1945). On January 17th 1907 an oil well went dry near present day Anschutz Boulevard & I-25 south of town limits - about 6 miles east from where Park Service land begins today just west of Interstate 25 - making this site one of many Petroleum Geologic Probes drilled during Colorado Oil Boom years
