The history of the Lakewood Coast Guard Academy began in 1915 when two men, Captain John S. Good and First Lieutenant James F. Linebaugh, decided to establish a school for coast guard cadets in the small town of Lakewood. The first class of cadets graduated from the academy in 1918. The Coast Guard has stationed here ever since and currently employs over 1,500 people as part of its coast guard family. In 1938, the United States Postal Service donated a post office building to the Coast Guard so that it could be used as a training center for future officers and airmen. In 1960, the Coast Guard Academy moved into a new facility on Third Avenue inside of The Ridges shopping mall. To date, this is still the only college-level educational institution within 30 miles of Denver – making it an ideal location for training officer candidates or para-military personnel who may need an additional degree or experience to serve their communities effectively. Today, Lakewood is home to one of America’s busiest maritime ports, with 2 million passengers passing through its doors each year—nearly triple what it was prior to 2000—making it one of Colorado’s top tourism destinations! With nearly $1 billion worth of retail sales annually—including hundreds of shops and restaurants located along Second Street between Main and Erie Streets—the city has become known as “The most visited city in Colorado”! On October 1st every year, residents from all over Coloradony gather at Eastern Market downtown to celebrate local commerce and community pride along with some great competition from neighboring towns like Golden didactic Mall (Lakewood), Englewood (Aurora), Thornton (Northeast Aurora) and Longmont (Southwest Highlands). This event is definitely not your average parade; this is where you will find both old timers like Mayor Rich DeVorello talking about their memories while also seeing brand-new businesses open up that were brought into town by recent transplants like Mattress Firm founder Rick Toth or Applebee’s owner Donny Davies – just last week alone there were 5 different businesses added to downtown during our annual growth season! It really doesn’t get any better than this folks!

The Coast Guard has been in Lakewood, Colorado since 1912. The first Coast Guard station was built on the shores of Long Beach Lake in 1912. In 1933, the first cutter was built in Lakewood and it served as the local police department's boat until 1952. In 1951, the Coast Guard Station moved to its current location on Hastings Boulevard. The station is home to a large helicopter hangar and a variety of other equipment used by the Coast Guard.
Lakewood, Colorado is a town in Arapahoe County, Colorado, United States. The population was 10,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Arapahoe County. The first permanent settler in what would become Lakewood was George Barker in 1876. At that time there were only a few scattered farms and ranches scattered around small ponds and creek systems. In 1902, the Western Electric company bought 4 miles (6 km) of railroad line from Denver to Ogden and built a telephone switchboard there. This led to the growth of Lakewood as an electrical center for area farmers and businesses who needed power to run their farms or generate electricity for home-the-phone services. By 1910, all but two of the original townships in Arapahoe County had been organized into municipalities: Aurora, Boulder City, Centennial Park, Commerce City (now Greenwood Village), Douglas Heights (now Evergreen), Elmhurst (now Northglenn), Fountain Hills (later Fillmore), Jackson Heights (later Irvington), Liberty Hill (later Alma), Maple Leaf Rancho Viejo de la Sierra Nueva Mexico land grant east of Alamosa north of I-25; residents voted on incorporation on November 5th 1911 with a ratio of 3:1 voting for incorporation over against prohibition amendment proposed by Mayor Leland Stanford; incorporation occurred on December 15th 1911 under name "Lakewood". As soon as it became possible for people to own property outside city limits they started building homes there; this included much of Midwestern America at that time including western Denver and Colorado Springs suburbs like South Platte and Longmont which had long been annexed by larger cities while Buffalo Grove lay just inside city limits. In 1927 when Route 66 was built through most or all of Intermountain West it routed through Lakewood making it one stop before continuing eastward into Kansas whereupon it connected with Interstate 70 near Topeka & Shawnee Mission OKs before terminating past Wichita KS near Kanabach AZ

Lakewood, Colorado is a town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 5,452 at the 2010 census. Lakewood is located on the shores of Long Valley Reservoir and has a total area of 22 square miles (58 km2). It takes its name from the nearby Clear Creek watershed which forms its eastern border. The first Europeans to visit what is now Lakewood were fur traders from northern Canada in 1825-6. They named the place after their destination—the clear creek they saw flowing through the forested valley between Mount English and Long Valley Dam. The first permanent settler in what is now Lakewood was James Haggerty, who built a cabin on an isolated piece of land along Clear Creek in 1835. By 1840, other settlers had arrived and by 1850 there were 7 homes and 10 businesses in what became known as "Lakewood." The growth of Lakewood was due to two factors: 1) development around Long Valley Reservoir; 2) easy access to goods brought overland by wagon trains traveling down the Arkansas River via Fort Larimer Road. The original canal route linking Denver and Salt Lake City bypassing Fort Larimer served as another impetus for settlement near Long Valley Reservoir. Work began on the canal route in 1868 but it wasn't until 1909 that it was completed. The completion of this dramatic transportation artery helped spur economic development throughout Weld County including construction of roads, airports, stores and other businesses which have enriched both locals and visitors alike ever since. Today's downtown areas include several large shopping malls as well as many small businesses catering to all types of consumers including farmers markets and local craft beer breweries dotting every nook and cranny of this vibrant community center which has seen plenty of growth over recent decades!
Lakewood is a city in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 20,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora–Boulder metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Lakewood was John Wesley Powell who traveled through this area on his 1869 expedition searching for new land to explore and report back to the US government. He named many of the local hills after pioneer Officers and men from his Expedition including: Rocky Mountain (Powell Hill), Tooele (Owen Hill), Central Park (Churchill Park), Golden Triangle (Greene Triangle) and others. In 1870, a post office was established at present-day Lakewood with Fenton as its first mailer. A store been built on South First Street in 1876 by J T Whitehead which burned down in 1903 but was rebuilt and became an important cultural center for this community until it closed its doors for good in 2006 due to budget cuts by then Mayor Ethan Berkowitz. On July 15th, 1907, President William McKinley delivered remarks during a campaign stop in Aurora entitled "A Centennial Warning" which included mention of "the fast-growing city of Lakewood". McKinley called on Congress to pass legislation providing money for improvements to Riverton Dam as part of a scheme designed to protect Colorado's agricultural production from possible floods caused by melting snowpacks high in the Rockies mountain range during winter months. Although not specifically mentioned within that speech, it was likely that Lakewood would also be affected if Riverton Dam were ever completed as construction proceeded apace; however no such legislation ever passed resulting in much development taking place within the city limits until after World War II when growth resumed anew thanks largely to Interstate 25 which bisected the city limits between Aurora andDenver proper
