In 1902, the city erected a school house on Delaware Avenue which served as the city's primary school until 1912 when it moved to its current location on East Colorado Boulevard. A new elementary school was built in 1925 and an addition was added to it in 1957. In 1933, Central Park saw its first outdoor Ashes game when Colorado State University hosted Oklahoma City University. In 1954,Central Park acquired its present name - Lakewood Memorial Park - thanks to then-mayor John Nolen who lobbied hard for it during his campaign for reelection that year.
