Lakewood, Colorado is a small town located in the western Denver-Aurora metropolitan area. It has a population of just over 20,000 people and has been served by the Lakewood Police Department since its establishment in 1907. The department had a budget of $8 million in 2013 and employs around 150 officers. The first police officer in Lakewood was Charles Amick, who joined the department on April 15, 1907. The department soon became known for its high quality service and effective response to emergency situations. In 1922, the department adopted an organizational chart that divided the force into two sections: Patrolmen were responsible for policing streets and residential areas while detectives were responsible for investigating crimes within the city limits. In 1951, Officer Harry Buehler was appointed as the first Chief of what is now called District 2. At that time, District 2 comprised all of downtown Lakewood as well as parts of east Aurora and west Brighton Heights. In 1969 Deputy Chief Tom Sheehan was appointed Chief when Superintendent Donald Geddes retired after 26 years with the department. Sheehan left in 1978 to take up a position with Denver’s Metropolitan Police Department where he served until 1992 when he was promoted to Assistant Chief under then-Chief Dick Niehaus before being named Chief in 1993 when Niehaus stepped down due to health concerns. From 2003 until his retirement in 2011, Sheehan served as acting Chief before becoming permanent interim chief following Niehaus’ death at age 82 on January 14th. SinceChief Sheehan left office there have been three chiefs; Ron Hickey from May 6th through November 7th (after Hickey resigned because of family issues), Pat Boyle from December 9th through February 3rd (Boyle resigned due to cancer) and John Sutcliffe from March 5th through October 10th (Sutcliffe resigned due to illness). On September 12th 2014 it was announced that incumbent Ron Hickey would serve out his final year without any challengers until next year's election which will be held on November 3rd 2015

Lakewood, Colorado is a town in Arapaho County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Lakewood were the Ute Indians. They came from central Mexico in search of new land to settle and started building homes in 1864. The town name was chosen by voting residents on December 15 of that year. As industries grew around mining and agriculture during the late 1800s and early 1900s, workers attracted businesses such as banks, hotels and theaters along Commerce Boulevard which became known as "the Main Street of Rockies." In 1912, when Lakewood voters approved a budget for a water system for its school district (the first municipal water system in Colorado), they also authorized annexation by Aurora into the municipality. In 1922, Aurora annexed another small community called Brighton to form a new borough; this created even more competition among communities for jobs and dollars coming from Aurora's coffers. Businesses moved out of Lakewood altogether after World War II ended but returned with an increased sense of civic purpose once again thanks to initiatives like maintaining graffiti free public parks and supporting community events such as carnivals and Fourth Of July celebrations. In 1959, all but one business closed down on Main Street due to consolidation within Aurora's two largest business districts; however, that scene has since reversed with local businesses reclaiming much of what used to be Main Street's commercial space. Lakewood is a small town in Mesa County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1858 by John S. Cady and his brother Jameson as a mining camp on the edge of what is now Lakewood Reservoir. By 1870, it had developed into a town with a large hotel and two boardinghouses serving miners and their families living in tents or shacks near the reservoir. In 1876, the first post office was opened in the town. In 1902, when Colorado became a state, Lakewood incorporated as an independent city under its own government. The city limits were expanded to include portions of Aurora and Westminster on July 1, 1904. On January 1, 1915, all but one of Lakewood's original blocks (northwest corner including East Hampden Avenue) were annexed by Aurora; this block remained unannexed until 1960 when it became east side Aurora Boulevard

In 1868, the Colorado General Assembly passed a bill creating Lakewood as a new town. The town quickly became popular with miners and their families who needed to get away from the harsh conditions of the Rockies. By 1870, Lakewood had a population of around 100 people. The next year saw an influx of soldiers from Fort Lyon after the US Civil War ended. They were needed to help suppress an uprising in Utah which started on February 14th, 1871. This led to increased tensions between Colorado and Utah officials which would continue until 1890 when they finally resolved their differences through negotiation
