Littleton is a town in Arapaho County, Colorado, United States. The population was 9,703 at the 2010 census. Littleton is located on the South Platte River and is bordered by Aspen to the north, Golden to the east, and Parker to the south. The first European settlers in what is now Littleton came from Scotland in 1836. They named their new town after John Littlefield, an American politician and lawyer from Boston who had come to Colorado as a business man in 1825. The first businesses in Littleton were a store and post office. In 1840, pioneers founded an agricultural colony near present-day Park City which became known as Aurora. A year later, they erected a log cabin for themselves on what is now Main Street. The name of the settlement changed to Littleton in 1845 because it was more convenient than Aurora for transportation purposes. In 1847, another group of Scotsmen moved into Littleton from Edinburgh and renamed it Centennial Springs after setting up a log cabin there that winter. This community lasted until the mid-1850s when most of its residents left for newer settlements around Aspen or Parker due to lack of water power available near Byers Ferry on South Platte River. In 1865, local merchants formed the Rocky Mountain Railroad which allowed goods traveling through Aspen downriver to reach Denver via Weiser Pass instead of going through Fort Collins via Keystone Canyon west of Aspen. This made little difference at first since transportation costs were high compared with prices paid for goods shipped upriver; nevertheless, this helped grow Commerce Street into one ofLittleton's commercial districts during its early years

Littleton is a small city located in the central Mesa County of Colorado. The population was estimated at just over 100,000 in 2014, making it one of the most populous cities in the state. Littleton is also known for its furniture industry which has played an important role in its economy since the early 19th century. The city was founded on June 14, 1864 by Myron P. Weicker and his brother-in-law George Armstrong Crippen as a small farming community named Forney after General Orville E. Howard’s cavalry brigade that had encamped there for supplies during the Black Hawk War. Forney quickly became a popular stopping point for travelers on their way to Ft. Collins and other nearby settlements. In 1881, Littleton became part of the new county of Mesa and was renamed Tooele by then-County President Franklin Halsell Smith. By 1907, however, Tooele had become so large and busy that Littleton was again reënacted as its own municipality with a population of around 50 residents. In 1912, Littleton voted to annex Lincoln County so that it could compete with Fort Collins as an educational center for eastern Coloradoans seeking to move westward during the Great Depression (see1912 Denver earthquake). The annexation wasn’t approved by voters but it happened nonetheless due to pressure from Mayor John Waddell who saw potential benefits for Littleton within the larger regionalschool system operated by Douglas Schools District No 2 (later Jefferson School District No 1). In 1922, Tooele annexed Garden City which had been established as a small town east of downtown Littleton about two miles long and one mile wide along United States Highway 24 near what is now Barton Springs Road (US 6A). Garden City quickly grew into one of Utah’s largest towns with over 20 businesses and 100 citizens when it annexed Tooele in 1922.
